After a rocky start of changes of venue it proved well worth it. Banbury (nr Oxford) was a brilliant site, with the right amount of camping areas/woodland/hidden passages and steep drops to have to slide down in full dress and ostrich feathered mask!

For myself and my comrades, it was a great introduction to our new Romarian characters to be timed in in the middle of a forest and then attacked and chased by Urdaal savages!

All weekend the role playing was superb, on entering the caravan as 'newbies' we were pleased to be treated with the usual suspicion and hostility (cough - hospitality!). There was not a dull moment with kidnappings, theft, the ritual, Urdaal and Saurians attacking us and even some time for trading - such was the amount of activity that I think near enough all players were injured at some point.

Highlights:

  • The disgusting Petronellus (sp?), the old man whose greatest performances was staring in 'The Naked Pauper' and 'The Buccaneer' - thanks for grossing us out!
  • Zanko as a werewolf
  • My brother Lucio taking on five Urdaal on his own
  • In true Romarian style taking a quarter of a bell to get ready into day wear from evening wear whilst members of the caravan had to wait outside the tent for us to be ready!
  • The 'game' of rescuing Lady Isabella - who the Urdaal positioned in the middle of the forest and closely protected her. Myself and others pathetically staked out the camp - it was pure comedy trying to find a wide enough tree to hide behind in a full flowing frock and day mask - yes, we were spotted, stabbed up and failed the task.

Low/High/Embarrassing point:

  • Purchasing Shadya for entertainment for my brother Lucio and then moments later some walkers strolled past to be welcomed by high pitched noises.

Lowlights:

  • Pavlov dying whilst killing the Nercomancer in order to save the caravan (again) - what will we do without his wit and charm? However I was amazed at how quickly the members of the caravan moved to annihilate the Saurian who stupidly desecrated the shrine to Pavlov.
  • Time out - we were so ready to fend off another attack by the Urdaal's!

In summary - Great crew, great food, lots of fun, lots of aching muscles from running around the forest all weekend - am looking forward to the next event!

Really cool event as usual.

After a quick descriptive prologue from a ref, (and the opportunity to have a quiet word about any particular aspect of your char you wanted advice on before kickoff) we headed to our respective IC camps.
There was the usual main caravan camp, including tavern and fire. And a couple of spare bell tents for those of us who would like to sleep IC but don't have a suitable tent.
The Romarians had their own caravan camp on the far side of the site, which was quickly overrun by unfriendly natives, so the survivors fled though the woods in the dark, spotting the lanterns encircling our camp, they staggered towards our campfire, pleading for sanctuary. With an eye for profit, we happily took them in.

We managed to have an honour duel with the local people's champion. It was a close thing, but Konrad won, and got them to promise safe passage for us all. Of course then there was the haggling over also getting back the goods and people they'd stolen from us, during which Lady Isabella got kidnapped and I got several axes to the chest whilst trying to save a silver box (drawing a fake magic circle round it did give the local thugs pause for thought, but sadly not enough time for re-enforcements to arrive.)

We were tempted to investigate a mound with many mushrooms on it, mostly covering a heavy chain that appeared to be tied to something underground, but fortunately for our life expectancy, we had more pressing things to occupy ourselves with.

One of the new people turned out to be a seamstress (hem hem). After some gold exchanged hands, she retired to the Roma nobles tent with Lucio. As things reached a crescendo, an elderly couple walking their dogs wandered though our camp. Bad bad timing. The loving couple had already had to kick the elderly letch of a playwright out of the tent.

We also had to deal with religious documents going missing, a blacksmith seeking work, the early days of a war back home affecting loyalties within the caravan and others, letters which might be involved in some blackmail/poisoning, lizardmen regarding us a cattle to be exploited (there's a mistake they didn't live long enough to regret). Getting cheerful wenches turning up regualrly with hot and cold food and occasional jugs of tea and coffee was much appreciated too.

And trying to drug a chap before he turned into a werewolf. The rest of the party set off to convince the shaman/necromancer who was corrupting the shrine to stop, leaving me and the mute cook to babysit an unconscious comrade in an otherwise deserted camp. With a couple of bodies burning merrily on the fire in pieces from an earlier run-in with the shamans creations. He kept partially surfacing, and grabbing hold of whatever was within reach, me, her, the main pole supporting the tent.. Then discussions with the cook over what was better, him bringing the tent down on top of us, or breaking my arm. This was after literally breaking the chair we had tied him to.

We did think we had everything reasonably under control, til the rest of the party came back, loudly proclaiming that Pavlov was dead. Leaving me to try to keep Z calm, get people to shuthef*ckup about Z's best friend having died till he's in a fit state to receive the news, like, _tomorrow_, and warning people that the other infectee was also looking edgy and scratching himself lots. Of course, not enough people listened to me char, being somewhat occupied with trying to patch up the other wounded, so I ended up caught between two werewolves. The doctor was reluctant to heal me till I assured him my wounds were claw marks, not teeth marks. The wolves ran off to hunt.

Pavlov had ripped off the caravan with his usual style and daring, that is, drunken barefaced cheek, but died heroically fighting the shaman who was summoning nasty spirits in the shrine, so much of his sins were forgiven, and he got a decent funeral and grave. Later a lizardman was stupid enough to defile the grave in front of me, one of his countrymen. I got to be very ranty, till the lizardman put his sword to my throat. He got slain with enthusiasm.

Very cool event, very immersive, really looking forward to the next one in april.

Another blinder of an event. Up to the high standards I have come to expect from Nyctophobia.

I certainly enjoyed playing my new character, Lucio de Aghlieiri, somewhat different from the Rasputins I have previously been playing. Speaking of which, didn't the jammy buggers do well? Again! R.I.P Pavlov, you're seemingly inexhaustable well of luck finally ran out but not before you made family Rasputin of Tirnalis possibly the wealthiest family in the city and helped my good self save the day with our joint assault, (un backed up I might add!) on the evil shaman dude! Your name will long be remembered.

I agree wholeheartedly with everything my sister has to say about the event except her purchasing me time with Shadya, for me at least, was certainly not a low point. But I didn't have to see the sneers of derision from those dog walkers. If I'd known they were there I'd have hammed it up even more and timed that loud popping cork better too! ("Oooh! I'll just remove myself...POP!" Bloody Hilarious)

It was great to ponce about in my finery with my very brave sister and our companion Panello Cornechi, changing masks and costumes and taking half an hour to arm for battle due to deciding what clothes went with my armour!

Can't wait for the next one. Well done everyone especially my very fine sister and companion.

Sorry, a bit slow off the mark here, busy making bows etc.

I thought it was an excellent event especially after all the pain of changing sites at the last minute. Well done to the organisers, crew and players for not dropping out.

I've not laughed so much in ages when Lucio got his present, first the old man setting up his stool outside so he could watch and then the dog walkers... perfect timing!

Lucio, of course you and Pavlov were backed up in the fight with the necormancer but there was a very stong chance of me shooting you in the back rather than getting the evil one.

R.I.P. Pavlov. You will be greatly missed. Nobody to have drinking competions with now and I'll have to find another target ;-)

Thank the true lords the Urdal didn't come after us when we ran off with Lady Isobella, I don't think there would have been much we could have done about it if they had!

All in all myself and Lady Isobella had a great weekend. Looking forward to April.

Later.
