Although perfectly happy with all the systems I attend all this talk of stab safe spears is making me want to get my spear and shield on in a lrp setting.  Weapon practice with mates is one thing but not the same.  So then, which systems out there DO allow this?

Sarah here

Waypoint permits such a combo. Admittedly it would largely restrict your racial choices...

Hyborian Tales is fine with spear/shield combos & stab-safe spears (see sig) as is Dumnonni.

I think Eventyr allow spear & shield. I know some of the lads there have used short 4' spears and shields.

At the upcoming Land of Giants game, spear and shield will be positively encouraged, it being the standard kit of a Germanic warrior.

I was on the receiving end of a spear / shield combination at Arborea Interactive a couple of weeks back, so it's a fair bet they allow it.

Thanks for that, anychance of some links as well? or any idea of whether they are national or local games. Tried Dumnomnia but they don't seem to have any info/rules on their website.  Thanks Ian have had a good read of your website.

The full Dumnonni rules are in quite a big, perfect-bound rulebook that they sell for a tenner or so IIRC. Not sure what's in them though as I've not bought a copy yet. For your typical human warrior type, ISTR it's 2 hits per location, with up to 4 hits per location added by armour (mail armour gets you the full 4 points; there's no plate armour allowed, other than helmets). All weapons do single. Nice & simple & brutal.

Based in the Cambridge area (on past events), but not what I'd call al 'local' system.
(Players at the last event came from as far as Sweden).
