I'm totally with Makai-Larp here (although I have none of the business insider aspect to compare to).

I have to admit that I've dipped into this thread and thought that the general content is very un-british and comparable to bear baiting a little bit. Granted, there may well be some horror stories for some customers and like Makai said there should have been court cases, but 8 pages of putting the boot in over at best half a dozen problems? I really hope there's not a hidden section of rule7 specially for verbally assaulting rambling opinionated newbies to the hobby like me. I'd probably have 30+ pages dedicated to discussing how much of a tit I am.

Sorry, I know this discussion really is closed but I really feel quite bad for Eldritch over the volume of bad press here, and I always stick up for the underdog (except when I'm the one doing the abusing IC during an event)

Generally I think that this kind of thread the "does anyone else have a problem with XXX" thread can be useful as long as it does not get to the point where people are simply repeating themselves or name calling. It is also useful when a person mentions when things are updated.

I think that if a provider is having trouble in meeting their orders then we have a duty to let others know e.g. in SCA now an excellent armourer has taken on too much work and some people have been waiting 6 months for their equipment, I think someone also mentioned that they have been waiting over a year (that is 6 months passed when the delivery date was not when the order was made). The main problem is that the armourer had stopped replying to mails and taking calls so people were starting to panic and were reaching out to see whether someone could re-assure them by saying something like

"Oh yeah, Ted had a problem where he had to change his number and his web went down - I will pass him your number so he can phone you, he has been worrying about it for weeks"

or

"A lot of people are having trouble with that armourer, I will let you know if they contact me"

I am glad that I know that there are problems because I was about to make an order with that armourer. It is also one I was recommending to my re-enactment group, I have now stopped recommending them, for the time being.

On the other hand I think that it is nice when people offer a review of a product when they get it - e.g. Make a thread saying "Review of Lancaster Armoury" and say what you think of the product and service (in their case spot on and excellant). This means that when people want to order something they can do a quick search and find reviews of the trader in question, no personal attacks should be present. Nothing but a clinical, emotionless review of the item and service.

[admin hat on]

To make our views on this plain.

Customer lobbying on a public forum is an acceptable form of criticism particularly when it is done in a constructive manner. Many of the users who have posted here have also posted when there disputes have been resolved. I would encourage all users to do the same and if asked (by Eldritch or a representative acting on their behalf) I am perfectly prepared to contact those users whose who do not post updates and/or close/lock the thread with a statement that indicates those issues are resolved.

Eldritch have a stickied topic in the Trader's Bazaar like every other trader who has asked for this and I will continue to support them with this privilege. I will also do everything I can to help in drawing a line under the issues raised here once those issues are resolved (see above). If there is anything further people think I should do, the report function is on the top of the page.

[admin hat off]

Incidentally, don't worry people, I'm not stressing about this, its a difficult issue and I just want to be clear about what our view is.

Update:
On Monday I phoned Eldritch to ask them why my refund was taking so long. They actually answered the phone, and I nearly forgot what I was doing in surprise. I was told that my refund was by cheque (fair enough), and that they had had a bag of post stolen, which presumably included the first cheque they sent. They are sending another one.

It's a bit odd. They seem to get a lot of post stolen, which suggests Lincolnshire postal services are run by a bunch of crooks.

As a general note, if you originally paid by card, it's reasonable to insist that they refund you by card.  That also removes the 'the cheque was lost in the post' issue...of course, if you paid by cash/cheque you'll just have to wait...

They did offer to do that, but they said they didn't have my details any more (which is good), and I don't like giving card details over the phone, so I asked for a cheque. I'm willing to accept a lost cheque story once.

Of course they would send a refund by registered post.

Which is how they know what happened to it... cos otherwise they wouldnt have a clue if a bag of post was stolen or not or indeed whether your letter was in it.

Id ask to see the registered post receipt... and the letter email they presumably recieved from the post office... but then Im mean and cynical....
