Sadly, Mikey is no longer able to write for Vikings, and since Rich is expecting his first child in a few months, real life has to take priority over LRP. Because I have no previous involvement in the plot writing and rules side of the game, I don't feel that I would be able to produce an event in only a couple of months without them. Well, not one that would live up to our previous Vikings LRP standards, anyway.

In light of this, I have decided to cancel the November event. However, all is not lost...

I am looking for volunteers who would be interested in helping me run another Vikings event. I believe that Vikings is a good game, and that it deserves a second chance with a new writing team.
If I can successfully put together a new team, then there will be more Vikings next year.

I'd like to thank all of our players and crew for their support, and apologise again that we have had to cancel our event.

Sorry to hear that. I've no time for a more full involvement but will be happy to crew again, should you find a suitable new team. Congrats to Rich on his impending dadhood, & commiserations to Mikey on his writer's block (you never hear of Vikings getting axe-murderer's block do you? Sometimes I think writers are just lazy, but not Mikey I'm sure).

What I really need is another three people who are prepared to write plot for Vikings. The rules are already written, and need nothing more than a bit of linguistic clarification in certain places.
The system background is currently sound, although when last seen we had left our players in an interesting predicament...

I need three people who are prepared to pick up our plot where Sam, Mike and Rich left off, and write some more intrigue and politics (with perhaps a little violence) for our players. It is worth re-iterating at this point that Vikings is a predominantly political game.

The interested applicant should ideally have some plot-writing experience (though it's not necessary), be able to commute to Manchester for meetings, and have some knowledge of the historical period (or have seen a lot of movies about it).
Above all, I'm looking for enthusiastic people who are not currently running other games, and who have no other commitments or imminent small children that will prevent them from running this one

Then, with luck and a following wind I can get back to organising the logistics, buying the props and embezzling the profits, where I belong

Gah!! The event I was looking forward to is not on! And to think I'd been learning the tale of Vali the avenger, and discovering how little canonical information there is about Ratatosk.

I'd help, but I've now moved darn sarf and wouldn't be able to commute to Manchester for meetings.

One slight point of disagreement - "Vikings is primarily a political game" - bollocks. Vikings is primarily a game about a group of pagan Norsemen in a period of history when life is rough for people like them, and the decisions they make. This does mean that political decisions are vitally important. However, the resolve of the vikings to make a last stand against impossible odds can also chuck away all politics. Plus, those of the thrall persuasion (like I was last event) would argue that no matter who the king is, you still end up shovelling the same steaming pile of shit.

No, you probably don't remember my character from the events I've been to.

I'd like to agree on this, Politics is for Puffs

we need some good hard combat action. although yeah, ok, I will admit, politics is fun for a lot of players, but damnit, it's Vikings, plunder, Pillage, murder etc, it's what being a good viking is all about.

Katie, i'll help if you wantm your call, my larp system died as no-one booked, so i'm free, kinda....

But without the politics, you'd never even get a dragon ship afloat, let alone be able to plunder and pillage.

I do so hope we see more Vikings, as it was oh so much fun....

The original game had 1 fight (I think)
The second game had hardcore politics that lead to combat through player choice
Game 3 was intended to be a more combat driven game, but with political choices to make in order to ensure that the characters could eke out a new existence after their exile.

Combat is all well and good, what Vikings did, was to put reason behind it, and also being willing *not* to have combat, if the players so choose. There were no 'random monster bash' attacks.

Saying you want pure combat, there are droves of stock fantasy systems that can provide for that, if you want to see intrigue, complex plotting, to-ing and fro-ing, then vikings is the game for you (and as mentioned, there *can* be combat, just its normally pretty brutal. Well reasoned, but brutal)
