So, who attributes their real name to their posts? If so why? If not why? Is there any bonus/disadvantage to be gained?

Personally I put both on here. Other forums I just (mainly) use Xarra now. Any really old forums will be my old handle, Ryuumeiko, although I'll probably ask the mods to change it on those soon. I would change my LJ one, but given the recent rukus I'm not giving them any money to do it - but I do have the LJ nick Xarra too - I just don't use it.

It's not a common handle, I own a good chunk of the Xarra domain names, and I use it consistently, so I don't view it as that anonymous, even though it's not my RL name and regardless of how much I like it I don't think I'll be using a deed poll any time soon...

So, do other people use a name consistently? Reasons?

I have been nicknamed "Dave Tart" for many many years now, so I tend to use derivatives of that for all my posting.

Yours,

I agree with Stu here. My real name CountZero2340.

Seriously though, it just makes life easier, especially on LRP forums, where I have a number of different names anyway.

Ever since a plugged a cable into my computer and started on the web I've called myself Xellpher.

I don't actively to hide my identity, there are quite a few people on the boards who know me.

Its one of the names used to identify me. My parents and close friends know me as J. Most people know me as Jamie or that tall guy, don't say a lot. The bank know me as Mr Mcmurdo.
Online, chatrooms and computer games I'm known as Xellpher.

To be honest I find that unless people have met me IRL (ie not IC), it is easier to remain behind a pseudonym and list the other aliases that people might have met me as and let them go "oh, so that's who it is..."

"You really are that frakkin' stupid aren't you...?"

I sometimes use my real name in a post when I`m expressing a very personal opinion and want to add whatever weight it`s worth. (Generally in the 'No, I can`t think of how I can proof that, but _I_ think it`s so' category.)

Apart from that, I`ll usually take a nomer people are most likely to recognise, which is my real name on some forums, but not on this one.
