Here's a couple of questions that I'd like you to think about and then answer.

1. What is this forum for?

2. What can you (yes, you, not others) do to make the forum more effective?

Let's see if we can come up with something useful.

1) To talk about Maesltrom. In turn, this creates a place where people can talk about Maelstrom, creating a community of people willing to chat about the game and encourage people to join in.

This does implie that a friendly atmosphere is the ideal feel of this board.

2) By starting interesting and useful debate. By cross-referencing those debates to other areas on the web where Maelstrom is dicussed, in an attempt to make the comminuity inclusive (and easier to find on web searches).

I personally think that a whole lot more of the player base could be included by having the forum on the PD website.

1) Well I think Ed has covered what it's for, but I can tell you a perception of it. Judging by a lot of conversatios with lrp friends who dont attend PD, it's purpose is seemingly to put people off coming to Maelstrom.

I appreciate this may look like a baity remark, but it's not intended as such. This has been the genuine reponse from a lot of the lrp'rs I know.

...and while engendering that community of Maelstrom players on-line, attempting to keep the conversation and comments to an adult, upright and honest methodology, speaking to others as you would have them speak unto you.  Not using the forum as an excuse to vent your spleen at people who, by the very definition, might actually turn up at your tent at 4am, slip a cloth bag over your head and beat you to death with your own shoes while you are in a drunken stupor, just because they called your mother something unmentionable, unspellable and unpronouncable.   Or your dog.

Of course, unless they be Tards.

Don't know about you, but I love Maelstrom and want it to continue.  A long time.  With guns and froth.  So Let's Make It Nice and Play Fair Shall We?  That or the "Tent Visit".

(Please take the serious comments as serious and the fun as fun, as it was meant to be)

Ah, but being directly associated with the company, it would have to be harsher and stricter because it has its image to look after.

(I'd also say, as I do when talking about web forums in general, that the 'Real Name Rule' is an excellent way of bypassing the Penny Arcade Formula )

The forum is for people who like Maelstrom to sit and talk about Maelstrom and related topics.

It's also for people to ask or give advice, and for group recruiting.

I'm not so keen on the flame wars myself. There are many forums on the internet for people who like engaging in such; please let this not be one of them.
