No argument there, though I recall sitting you down in front of Robin of Sherwood one evening. I stand by my assertion that you can learn a lot about British LRP that way. What, the I pose, you pose, we all pose together school of LRP? Or the "Mullet's are fashionable, lets stick with them" school?

Something I have picked up from the early tales and the Granada TV series is the aspect of conflict between the group. The TV series has a lot of 'angst' between the characters each competing with their stories of woe. 'I've had a harder life than you and my priorities are greater than yours'. The old tales tell of Robin and John arguing, falling out and going their own way, then having to rescue each other and friendship overcoming their own personal goals. I'm starting to think a lot of the role-play is going to come from the interactions between the PC's around aspects of trust, friendship and leadership. I would like each adventure/story to have some kind of moral, nothing too twee but still something that makes you think for a moment.

Surely!
"Um, nice costume lady? My armour's not so great."
"Stick one of the tabards on top, you'll be fine."
"Remember lads, big dramatic sword swings!"
"Argh, they still haven't figured out the plot!"
"Right, we need a plot monster. Pass me the antlers."
"Okay, we got seven of them trying to sneak across the open field."
"Then we need waves of nameless 1-hit guards, stat!"
"So, the linear party has 6 blokes and only one girl."
"Oh, so she's someone's girlfriend. Give her something healer-y to do."
"Pose break! If I flick my hair like this, do I look like Michael Praed?"
"More like the bloke out of Casualty."
I'm pleased to say that LRP has moved on a hell of a lot since then, but here's the roots right there.

| There have been two larps (that I know of. . . ) based on the 1980's HTV Robin of Sherwood series. One was down here, which kept the same style but set it slightly earlier in history, during the civl war between good king Stephen and the evil Queen Maud. We actually did the playtest at Leigh woods, where much of the series was filmed. I heard some of the old Mirth LARP crowd also ran Robin of sherwood game, where they actually had the players playing the named characters. THe film Sarah mentioned is also worth looking at. It's adds a very nice racial/cultural saxon vs. norman take to it (norman: 'we will make this the greatest nation in the world, inspite of the english'. saxon: 'a nation of serfs and slaves') There is also a TT RPG called 'Darkwood' by Tower Games, which is fairly blatently based on the Robin of Sherwood (or as much as they could without buying the rights to it) which might be worth looking at. More generally Ars Magica, being a very well researched RPG set in 1220 by default (only a few years after the death King John) might be useful as a source of general background material. The england and wales sourcebook for it may well be worth looking at. I was also told by the author that robin hood (and star wars) was the inspiration for 'the age of the storm,' a published fantasy nordic larp setting. The setting had the players as rebels fighting against an evil wizard-emperor and dealing with other rebel groups with their own conflicting ideals.

| oh, and in littlebus's defense, a more light hearted disney style robin hood with fantasy races (fox mokesh robin, etc) might also be interesting. The new german arrows would probably also make robin hood somewhat more playable as a setting.

The ROS one by the 'old Mirth lot' was loads of fun. I played the Sheriff and mainly shouted 'Gisbourne' a lot.
