Should there be an event for over 30s only?

If there's demand for it, why not?

Marianne (8/13/2007) Why?Well now I'm of a certain age as are many of my mates, games might be more 'comfortable' without all them youngsters running around.

| Yes. That way I don't have to hear anybody tell me how much better drakenfest was (or whatever its called), nobody will harp on about gaffa weapons with some missplaced sense of romance, nobody will begin a sentence with "in my day", battles won't have to stop every 10 minutes for people to catch they're breath, there will be no letcherous old bastard chasing anything in a corset, monsters will be full of energy and enthusiasm, more people will have more fun.

Fatelf (8/14/2007) Yes.

If there's an over-thirties event, it won't draw all the over-thirties away from the events that are open to all, though I suppose some might play less of other events.

| In my day we didn't have over 30s in LRP. They weren't allowed. We killed them as soon as they reached 30 in order to maintain our perfect world order. Then we got to 30 and realised what a stupid idea that was and started persecuting the youngsters instead... Seriously, though, list the benefits/disads of this form of 'age limit'. The ones I can see are: Benefits: - More money therefore better quality of kit overall - More maturity therefore less immature messing about - More experience However, major con is alienating a lot of very good LRPers who just happen to be young. To take it to an extreme, I am usually wary of 'children in LRP' mainly because past experience has shown they can be a hindrance if not properly controlled. However, I have been to LRP with Karl Sturrock and seen how he can be at an event. I have also been to BRR events where many of the monster crew are under 16 because one of the refs works at a school and does heavy recruiting there (and hires a minibus to ship them all to the event and back) and there have been few problems with that. The point being that generalisation based on age is a little extreme and may not achieve what you want to achieve. The benefits I list above are all good ones but I am not convinced that you will get them by simply limiting age. You are better off following GDs or NWOs model and running invite only events and only inviting those you think are sensible, mature and have good kit regardless of age. Or following PDs model and imposing strict guidelines on costume and make up.
