I’ve heard that ‘bungee’ is sometimes used on LRP crossbows. Exactly what kind of ‘bungee’ is this? I'm thinking of making one or two or three, so any info would help. Anyone know?

You can get it from DIY shops. It's composed of strands of stretchy rubbery stuff surrounded by a braided cover that protects it and limits the amount of stretch so it doesn't snap. You can get different thicknesses. At first glance it looks like a kind of rope.

(Was that what you were asking?)

LARP crossbows tend to use a thickness of perhaps 8mm or 10mm, but I've not measured.

Ah yes thanks that was what I was asking. So its just the stuff thats used for strapping down stuff to roof racks on cars and that sort of thing? I suppose a few strands of thinner stuff braided together and stained brownish might look a bit more authentic.

Also does anyone know what is the accepted average poundage on a cross bow these days?

cheers Tart. I was kind of looking for an answer from a weapons checker who could quote the standards for the big three without me having to wade through the usually poorly designed literature to find out what the limit is on crossbows is. 25-30 could be right but I seem to remember there being some debate on crossbow poundage in the past.

Last time I looked (for bow limits) it wasn't that hard. Suggested Google terms:
crossbow OR crossbows safety OR limit site:.profounddecisions.co.uk
(then again for the other sites for the other systems)

...and it seems Profound Decisions doesn't specify the limit for crossbows, only for bows.

Yep after my journey on google it looks like the limit is 30lbs. On all the various LRP sites I found. PD isn't clear but I'm assuming it's 30 on bows in general be they crossbow or longbows.

seach for Bungee on ebay, theres one firm on there who sell allsorts of sizes quite cheaply, I bought black 8mm for my crossbows/siege engines

Maelstrom poundage is 30lbs @ 28 inches for bows, and 30lbs at the lock for crossbows and ballistea

Buy from me and stop one

The term you're looking for is Seige Engineer !!!

All problems can be solved with engineering......and large amounts of kinetic energy
