Is there a reason it has to be latex? paper mache ones can look damn good...

i was thinking latex for the ruff and tumble of costume and effects of weather unless papermache can be "cured" to resist the rain etc, i dont know ;-) or does latex cover paper mache quite well?

I'd suggest just hitting the boot fairs/charity shops and buying a few kiddies dolls then sticking tissue paper on with latex to form wrinkles, sew the eyes up, matt the hair, paint brown with more brown washes etc. It might just work.

Paper mache can be varnished.
If you include a fair amount of PVA along with the wet mash, I imagine once finished it'd cope with getting wet without turning back to pulp.
I imagine latex would cover it just fine. It'll stick to paper mache better than to the polyethene foam used for weapons.

| It would probably be best to make your own mold - a 2 part mold of course, so you don't have to destroy it to produce a shrunken head. Simply get some plasticine - or clay - sculpt your desired head. Cover it in some oil, silcon spray or vaseline. Get some plaster of paris (dental plaster is better) - mix and pour into a box - half sink the scuplted head into it - wait to dry - extract head gently = 1 half of mold. And so on

If you just want the shrunken head, Skian Mhor sells them. If that helps.

Sadly I don't think Séan's updated his website in years - certainly hadn't last time I checked. If you email him I'm sure he could sort you out. I've got two of his shrunken heads (both orcs, though he does humans and elves too that I've seen) and I reckon they're pretty reasonable.
