Turns out I need some. It's for a Maelstrom dracoscion (baby one), so looking for something that can start off small and then maybe spread if the character lives long enough.
I really, really hate latex masks, for a number of reasons. But just doing makeup looks a bit half-hearted. I was kind of hoping to find some stick-on scales in the same kind of line as those fake moles you can get, and use lots of those, but I haven't seen anything like that on the costuming websites. I'm really really bad at makeup, and need something I can do with little or no artistic skill (though I might be able to get some help). What can I do that's somewhere in between mask and snazz?
Current: Something competent (hopefully)
Previous: Izza Veran. Probably the cutest Rukhi dracosion ever cried over by a demon.
Previous: Talien Satha. Never meant for it to happen.

Gemma (7/24/2007) I really, really hate latex masks, for a number of reasons. The path of cunning might be to get a non-latex, (say, domino mask) and then put your scale physreps on that. It seems to work well with feathers and would be a damn sight better than spirit gumming scales directly to one's delicate fizzog.
There is only overconfidence and terror.

| By masks, I assume you also mean domino masks and other partial masks? or do you just mean full head masks? If it is just full head ones then I would suggest a simple domino mask which covers some of your face and has a scale pattern on it. You can get these made in plastic or leather and made to fit your face precisely to be more comfortable. You may find individual scales just stuck on with spirit gum to be a real faff and not look all that good. You will probably shed them all over the place and therefore lose them. Better to have some face pieces made - moulded latex to fit over the forehead and cheeks with scale patterns on them which can then be blended into the face with make up. A star trek pastie head look. You'll need good glue and make sure that they are not too heavy that they fall off easily.
