Someone who I'm hoping to convince to play a bug when they die can't wear masks

*wave* Hello...

My problem is quite uncommon, and unlikely to affect any decent section of the playerbase, so thinking of solutions to it isn't necessarily inherently useful; but it does lead on to "ways to attach prosthetics at non-traditional points", which could have other applications. (For reference, I can't wear masks which rub or cause sensitivity at the cheekbones/lower eyesockets, bridge of the nose, or browline - the points where the standard Kangena/Evenlode/etc. prosthetics generally go. Old skin damage from burns.)

One thing I was considering was a series of painted latex plates, one for each cheek, perhaps one on the brow, then another pair for the chin and maybe something on the nose - distinct plates rather than a full mask, meaning they can be glued/Prosaided/spiritgummed/whatever at (for example) the centre of each cheek and on the outside of the nostrils rather than at the other points. I'd suggest that it might even be possible to create a convincing Myrmidon in the mode of them-what-turned-up-on-Sunday with the same base colour, then attached painted cheek plates in the same black-and-silver as the detail, rather than makeup - that would then perhaps provide sufficient "chitinous" look to make it clear what one is seeing.

(I didn't personally have a problem identifying what I was looking at, but then I was first approaching them having been told 'Four Myrmidons, orange robes, go fetch' rather than coming to them cold. I'm also getting feedback from other people who've only seen photos that they wouldn't be certain those were Myrmidons if they'd met them in play.)

For me, it's the mandibles and/or antennae which make the Myrmidons currently-in-play immediately recognisable as insectile, rather than any chitinous look. Are there any other qualities of the insect "face" which could be easily adopted to provide a similar immediate-recognition quotient for future Hives? Is there an easy/cheap way to do bug-eyes, or probosces, or to change the shape of the chin to be more triangular?

I didn't see this lot, but I'm not convinced that makeup (alone) *can* meet the minimum phys rep for Myrmidons. Note that the description says "chitinous plates" not "chitinous plate makeup". Compare to other phys rep descriptions, e.g. Ophidians "snake scale makeup". I think if you want to do chitinous plates covering the whole of the face, you need something more solid-looking than Snazz. Not necessarily a mask, but maybe prosthetics? I could see this working with several large painted foam chitin-plates Pros-Aided into place on forehead, cheeks, & chin. Otherwise it's too hard to tell whether those makeup "plates" are supposed to be chitin, scales, fur...

To me, plates have to be solid.

Speaking as one of the insects in question (I'm typecast), I wasn't entirely sure our race was obvious either, however I disagree that it can't be done with makeup. Before I switched to using a mask for him, Claw generally went out with a stunning makeup job and prosthetic mandibles, but on at least one occassion the mandibles were missing and I and another crew member went out with only makeup jobs and yet it was still obvious we were myrmidons, and even what hive, if you knew much about the hives currently in play.

Damn hard though, and I'd agree we missed achieving that this time.

Even so, Wemics?

Something as simple as a pair of minotaur horns stuck upside down to the jaw, with a good makeup job, makes passable mandibles and it's bloody clear what race you are. Given time and talent, I'd make my own mandible prosthetics and stick with that, if I were you, although the plates idea sounds quite good as well.

Blimey, Claw/you is/are a crew member? Yet again I'm well impressed with the PD crew's ability to blend in completely with the player base...

Infact DectheAnt has done exactly that, helmet with some paint and what I'm guessing used to be golf-balls used to produce something which is definately myrmidon without looking like any of the other myrmidons.

What a terrible character name!

Are there any photos you know of?

Dec: http://www.flickr.com/photos/oliver_godby/880508334/in/set-72157600972613619/

The photo suggests that he *might* be undead now, but he definately started off myrmidon.

Also, clinky warrior from HotW used a balaclava with plates glued to it, which also functioned reasonably well, though no good photo's that I know of.

Is there an easy/cheap way to do bug-eyes?

A tea strainer on each eye. Less than a fiver and look frickin' amazing, also you can see perfectly, albeit a bit soft-focus round the edges. I don't want to play a bug for any other reason than tea strainers on the eyes!

Make sure you have the right Claw there, Ian, as I know you know me and know I'm crew (I've spent enough time in God ...), I just suspect you don't know the character (or, I suppose, don't recognise me under it all)

I think we are perhaps being presented with the Claw / Claw-of-the-Gods confusion which led to such lengthy hilarity following last DT?
