From the point of view of the show and the system, take Lore: Underworld as a Merit (If the refs will allow it, but I don't see why they wouldn't), maybe Traders Guild Member if you want to have some legitimate contacts. Everything else is a matter of roleplay, from what I remember of Badger. If you want to have allies, you'll need to find them, because there's no other in-game way to get allies.

The rules are linked to from http://www.serenity-lrp.co.uk/Rules.html, and the referee team are interested in making a good game, so once we'd submitted our initial group background, they suggested several small changes that helped us fit it into the world better.

You can certainly play a character like Badger, but you'd have to remember that each event takes place on a different planet, so a crime boss of his reputation - with roots in the community an' all that - would find it difficult to justify moving from place to place. You'd probably have more fun with Badger in his early years, when he's still trying to forge a name for himself, travelling 'round the 'Verse and making contacts, dodgy deals and a couple of notable enemies.

On the other hand, if you take lots of investment and can provide players to be your lackeys, there's no reason why Serenity LRP can't have it's own PC crime lord...

Well if they show themselves to be smart, they might get IC lackeys.  I'm sure I'm not the only one who's been thinking to themselves, "Now... What Would Jayne Do?"

There is only overconfidence and terror.

I've always found that the best way to get and keep lackeys is never to call them lackeys, use big soudign names like "partners", "aides", "companions" or best of all

"crew"

I quite like terming them associates. Makes them sound more equal than they really are.

"You really are that frakkin' stupid aren't you...?"
