| At the fest I frequented, First Faction Muster included a little safety speech. How to pull a blow, where not to hit, where the faction`s first aid kit and the fire extinguisher were, where the first aid tent was, the theory of keeping an approach route open for ambulances ("during an emergency, do as you`re told") and ending with the question: "Who`s got a certificate?" (Not sure about the British situation, but downhere a certified first aider is obliged to make himself known when asked.) edit: a tip I found in Make Up Artist Magazine : if your club/players use a lot of make up, keep a can of de-make up near the first aid kit, as face paint can be rather confusing for people trying to reach a diagnosis.

I don't think there is any legal requirement to make yourself known if asked but most who are trained would tend to anyway. Make up can be confusing but if you know what you are doing should not be a problem (unless it is really good make up...). I remember being tested by Redhillian at a fest once - he'd set up some kid with a fake injury and then called us in to deal with it as an exercise. I didn't know it was an exercise until I got close to the person and realised that the visible injuries were all make up. Doesn't stop you doing all the checks - ABC, looking for bleeding (and real blood is nothing like fake blood, trust my long experience on this as someone who has been up to his elbows in it in the past) and so on. There are other ways to diagnose shock that don't rely on colour (though colour is the most useful) and 'pale and sweaty' shows up even under make up in most cases. Being able to remove make up is useful, though. Also having a person nearby who can tell the paramedics what is make up and what is not is also useful. If the make up artist can tell the paramedic what is real and what is not it could speed up diagnosis.

Does anyone know anything about First Aid Kits?
I have first aiders for my event but need to know a good legal First Aid kit for about 50ish people.

I'm a little put off buying one of those ones as:
The contents are based on a low-risk work environment. For more hazardous work environments, kits will need to be supplemented with extra First Aid materials.
LRP is a lot more risky, its outdoors and I don't think the kit is geared up for it, equipment-wise and legally (should I get sued).
This is why I need some help from people with the know how.

| The person to speak to about LRP first aid kits is Redhillian who has years of experience in LRP First Aid. However, to be honest, you need little more than is in a standard kit for LRP. All you can really do is add more of some things that are likely to be needed more. You don't need anything special as anything major will need to be handled by an ambulance anyway. A lot depends on if you are doing small event cover or large fest cover. If fest, you may need to consider getting in large stocks of things to last several events rather than one small kit - get enough to equip a small tent. Rather than buy a 'kit' buy everything in bulkpack size boxes.

Thanks lot both.
Thats what I needed to hear.
I don't want to cut costs and only to find someone isn't treated properly, but if you think that a standard kit is enough, then thats good enough for me. It is HSE approved too.
