Question should be what do you think has the most adverse effects on society - taking into account health, social and domestic problems and uncivil and illegal behaviour.

Just checking out of interest.

I drink and smoke, but voted for drinking.

It's not as simple as a binary "which is worse", is it? Both are self-evidently bad things for society, in terms of health or behaviour.

The difference is, the majority of people drink. 20 years ago the majority of people smoked; now they don't. Hence smoking bans to protect the majority from the minority.

Maybe the question is more dangerous than both. It implies that if we can identify one as being not as bad, we don't need to worry about it (as much if at all) and their defenders can use that to divert attention away. It's a bit like asking if you'd rather be shot in the leg or shot in the face and feigning innocence when you complain about your knee-capping.Alcohol and tobacco both bring a whole range of problems which need working on but the problems are very different so they need different and separate solutions.

Please explain how smoking adversely affects behaviour?

You will note from the available poll answers that you can vote for them both being bad.

The only problems caused by tobacco that I am aware of are health ones (alledgedly).

The problems caused by alcohol would seem to cover a much broader spectrum.

Well, facetious comments about "making people willing to give others cancer" and "turning otherwise reasonable people into crazed addicts who take huge breaks at work every 20 minutes" aside, I used the word "or", which would imply one of the set for the given items, not both. If I was suggesting smoking adversely affected behaviour I'd have said "and".

Assuming you're a smoker, it also clearly makes you unable to understand the nuances of English...

The unsubtle nuances of not making facetious comments whilst actually laying them out for all to see I can pick up on My grasp of the English language is excellent - thank you.

Regarding the comments you didn't make I wonder how many smokers thought about the alleged second-hand smoking risks before starting? I was 13 (30 years ago now) and had little idea of the effects on my own health, let alone others. In regard to the second non-comment - I am perfectly capable to work without taking smoke breaks if I have to.

I personally am of the opinion that drinking causes far more problems in a much greater number of ways than smoking does.

Probably, but so what?
