I'd just like to check whether armour like this would count as heavy or extra heavy.

Cheers. Just needed to know for craft skill purposes. Actually, while we're on the subject, do crafters get to choose the lammie they get to start with? So would someone with craft light/medium armour get the choice of a light armour lammie or a medium armour lammie?

| Hello, in a related question, if I have steel plate legs, arms, bevor, sallet, and a brigandine made of 2mm steel plates, with steel mail on the gaps, is that extra-heavy or just heavy? It'll probably weigh about four stone, if that's a factor. Thanks, SF.

| Sounds like extra heavy. If you have a picture or two and want to email them, I can give you a definitive answer. Allen.Stroud@btinternet.com

| Okay, well if its a metal phys rep with plate as the majority coverage its extra heavy. The criteria we judge these things on will be: 1. Encumberance 2. Appropriate Material coverage 3. Overal Armoured Coverage The thinking behind the extra heavy armour category is to give a bit of an extra advantage to players who go for that high grade re-enactor phys rep. If that's the category you fall into, then thats the box we want to put you in.

| That's nice of you - it will definately be re-enactor kit rather than LARP kit. Thanks, SF.

2mm? Why so thick?
At least according to Blankenshield (maker of reproduction historical armour) that's not a good idea:
http://www.livesteelarmor.com/wdaba.html
One thing that Blankenshield will never do no matter how the modern “taste” in armour dictates things is make heavy gauge armour. Our helmets have 16 or 14 gauge crowns depending on the customer and 16 or 14 gauge visors and attached plates. The rest of the armour is 18 gauge with a few 16 gauge pieces and options scattered throughout. This is as heavy as the originals we are basing our designs on and our product is just as hard and strong. We know there are late bullet proof pieces far heavier than these armours designed for sword and lance. In the sixteenth century these armours were called "good and sufficient". The use of 14 gauge for complete body and limb armour while actually required by some organizations is, in a practical sense unsafe. The weights that result are dangerous to man and beast alike.
