Allen Stroud (7/5/2007)
However I don't think you've confused me with Pete. After all, he posts far more than me and pokes his nose in all sorts of threads that he has nothing to do with...

With the obvious exception of this one.  I have after all written a book, self published it and broke even on the sales of copies.  I have also been paid to teach things like the use of spelling and punctuation and er... proof-reading.  If you want some help with any of these things, Allen, then please feel free to call upon my services.

There is only overconfidence and terror.

Bless ya Pete, thank you.

That line was a joke, I'm pretty sure you realise it.

I would certainly be interested, and more so in a group along Ian's lines, simply because I know how far my own energy tends to last. Without an externally imposed target, I tend to waver, find too many other things making demands or my time and generally faff.

For example - I'm now on the ABSOLUTE last deadline for my MA Scriptwriting submission - up till now, the knowledge that my deadlines were flexible has led to other concerns (marriage, miscarriage, job) taking over time I could have spent developing what I really hope I can turn into a career. Whilst I know I have a long way to go, I need the support and demands of a group to replace the personal discipline I seem to have lost...

So, if anything does get off the ground, I'd love to be involved. Although I would like to know if this will include other formats than prose - my MA project is a radio series, I'm also interested in screenwriting, as well as having a long-term plan for a novel. If there is anyone else who wants to start a group for multiple formats, count me in!

Maelstrom - Elspeth Grigori - Holy Martyr
Lilith Sartia - I see weird people!

EOS - Maram-amma Suran - The Very Important Wife

Reality - Rebecca Willatts

Well I may well still be up for it, though I was hoping not to have to organise it.

I'm just on a TAPS Cymru screenwriting course myself ATM, though, and so while I reckon it'd be ace to submit & crit fiction, film/TV screenplays, radio plays, etc., I may also have found myself one or two new local people (others on the course) I can get together with for a local writing group. I reckon face-to-face is slightly preferable to online, so if that comes off, I might not be up for doing an online group too. I'll see how it goes. Maybe we can all revisit this thread in a month or two & see what happens...

I am also still up for it. I think we'd need to tweak some of the ways it will work and set up some rules to make sure that things run smoothly before we get anywhere near any writing but I think it can work. Like Ian, I am also invovled in some other groups that do take up my time (at the moment I am managing an anthology which is floundering due to lack of stories - we lost a couple of wrtiers to various personal issues and are now trying to make up the story numbers by recruiting more writers willing to stick to the brief. Most of my spare time at the moment is taken with recruiting these and later it will be full of critting and editing...) but I can afford to devote some time to this I am sure.

All we need now is a fearless leader to... er... lead us... er, fearlessly...

I would love to join something like this. I need constructive criticism, otherwise I tend to get stuck in horrible depressive ruts over my writing without the impetus to improve it, and outside deadlines are ALWAYS a good thing.

Are you still interested, Allen?
