Alright, so as many people know - or may not know, I write and teaching writing fantasy at a University.

Who else writes?

The one thing I've found over the last few years is getting some honest feedback and not just "It's great" style feedback can be really difficult. I founded a little writers club down in Wycombe and wondered if we could put something similiar together amongst Rule7 members online.

Anyone interested?

Kinda lost confidence in my ability to write a couple of years back. But if I could get some honest critism and advice, then yeah I'm interested.

I *try* to write... am involved in a number of online workshops and have some things in progress at the moment. I agree about the lack of decent criticism.

If you set something up, I'll try to contribute given time...

What may be interesting would be seeing if we can produce a Rule 7 story anthology from the work of a workshop of members.

I love the idea of writing, but have no disipline. If there was an element of shouting at me to get stuff done I'd be interested.

That is usually what workshops are designed to do - spur you to write more by giving you positive feedback, constructive criticism and other bonuses (not least of which is a captive audience ). They can also add a competitive edge to your writing by introducing time based competitions - write a short piece on a particular topic in a week, for example - and therefore introduce you to the concepts of writing discipline (writing a little every day regardless of how good it is or how much time you have free) and the ever present threat of deadlines.

Mainly, however, they provide an excellent support structure for help and advice.

Allen, how do you intend to organise this?

You do?

I had  heard of creative writing courses but didn't know you could do fantasy in particular. So are you a published author?

How do you 'teach' someone to write fantasy? At degree level?

What an intriguing concept.

What Marios said.

Been writing a couple of years only and it's generally large amounts crammed into short spaces of time (google Nanowrimo).. but more writing is always a good thing because the more you do it, the more ideas you have (or at least I seem to anyway).

Dunno really (not very well at present), but  I could put a sub forum up for people to post a story, then get criticial comments. I'd be happy to eiher a) make it a login only forum or b) a special login only forum or even c) make it open to all, dependent on people's worries over copyright and courage in posting their work.

I would however also wat to set some ground rules on criticism as obviously we are trying to encourage writers and not everyone has ablative armour.
