I've seen very good and very bad review of this.  Anyone seen it or planning to?

I saw LoTR when it was on in Toronto a year or so and I quite enjoyed it. Some of the acting was a bit lame, Gandalf being particularly bad, but the stage set was very imaginative and looked great. The balrog was spectacular and Shelob was quite nicely done too. The songs were ok, though I'm not a big fan of musicals generally. The story did seem a little rushed, even though it was pretty damn long and I believe the run time has been cut for the London show. I am a bit of a Tolkein nerd which may bias my opinion a little, but overall I did like it. It's not brilliant, but I'd say it's worth watching if you're a fan.

No. Just no.

I have no intention of seeing it even if the alternative was cutting my own testes of with a rusty eg whish and sitting in a vat of vinegar for a couple of hours.

Musicals are irritating to say the least ( I hate them with a passion, but Some people like them each to their own ) but the thing that annoys me more than anythign is this kind of thing where they take a perfectly decent story and put annoying songs in it. ( Even worse are where they take perfectly decent songs and try and crowbar a sh*t plot around them, for example The rod stewart musical that was about a couple of years ago. JUST GO AND SEE ROD STEWART !!! *)

* - ok, possibly bad example here, but you get the point..............

A bunch of us are going to see it in sept- to be honest I find musicals fairly cringy as well, I always feel embarassed for the poor sod singing the song that doesn't quite fit the tune ( a bit like fallout boy).

However the sets and costumes look pretty good and I'll be nicking ideas for monster kit.
