No, but right now getting something to eat seems more important than explaining why.

and now? explain! explain!

If you can't beat your computer at chess, try kickboxing.

From what I've read in various places, yes, bounceback is less. This means they transfer less momentum to whatever they hit, so I would expect them to hurt less.
Erm... if they bounce back _less_ that means that they're converting less Kin. E. into Pot. E. on impact, therefore they should hurt _more_. Assuming they're made of the same stuff as before.

If I said that 1 = pre collision and 2 = post collision then:

Given that m1v1 = m2v2 and I assume that changes in mass are insignificant than that implies that m1=m2 and therefore v1 = v2.  Of course that's just the basic stuff for inelastic collisions.

So: KE1 - Energy taken to crush and expand the foam head = KE2

So I guess, if the foam head is bigger than that means that more energy is being spent crushing it over longer.

Ahh... which would lower the energy imparted to your target which would lower the reactive force, which would mean it bounced less far, thus indicating that it should hurt less.

I'm sure your momentum explanation makes sense to you.  :p

There is only overconfidence and terror.

Sod science, duck, use a shield or wear armour (or as I've frequently pointed out- oddly shaped dice in various bright colours) the amount of "hurt" we're talking about isn't worth talking about. They're safe, accurate and most importantly durable and of a predictable standard ( the 2 biggest dangers of the old style arrows coming from breakages and sloppy manufacture).

1st time I got hit by an arrow it knocked me off my feet- turned out it was a 50lb draw bow and as I was only 10ft away.... the point is it didn't bruise me (apart from my arse) and I just assumed it was normal and avoided getting shot, let's stop yet another "safety creep" or before we know it we'll be loosing arrows on a range beforehand, recording our hits and misses, then pretending to use a bow during time in.
