Yeah, Been larping for three years now and fighting for longer,

Yes your longer than your LRP career fighting career therefore has absolutely no relevance to your understanding of LRP combat.

If you've never been unfortunately hit in three years your very lucky.

So Metal hilt.

No.

Crap Idea.

The lightsabre sounds like it would be fairly bulky.... is the whole blade going to be the width of an LRP arrow?

Now, if they duck into my swinging hilt, they'll get my knuckles to their face before the hilt hits, so foam or metal makes zero difference there.

Ity does actually.... If I hold a bit of metal pipe in my habd and punch you in the facer it will feel considerably different from me ounching you in the face with something squishier in my hand.

Plus youve got the but end of your handle to consider....

Ive been hit by those a coulple of times...

Just to go back to the construction thing:

1) I concur that a decent weapons maker should be able to make a decent looking lightsabre.

2) Your plan is to have jsut the hilt on your belt, then do what exactly when you operate it? call a time freeze and screw in the blade?? where will you keep the blade when not in use?

I really can't see much point in making a detachable blade when you could simply build a)a hilt and b) a complete sabre to swop too.

If you can't beat your computer at chess, try kickboxing.

Flannel - you're late. I'm not making a breakdown, or one with a metal hilt.
The statement of length of time LRPing and fighting was to indicate that it takes clumsiness (imho) to accidentally catch someone with your fist or the hilt / pommel of a 36"+ weapon, and that combat awareness helps in any combat situation, including LRP combat.

As to construction, that's not longer in my ball (see below)

Tart - I'd previously spoken with the system refs and they're to call a time freeze for saber activation (as there's so few jedi n the system it won't be a common occurance anyway) if it means that when not in use the saber's blade isn't on display.

Just to reiterate what's been said twice now.
I'm going a two prop route.
To explain what I mean.
1. FULLY lrp safe lightsaber - foam through and through - and I'm going to get someone else to make it, because they're going to be better at the detailing than me.
2. Hilt prop to hang off belt.

So, to summarize, the fully lrpable weapon will be in a black (or brown or whatever color the rest of the costume turns out to be so as to keep it mildly camoflaged with the costume) scabbard so it's 'hidden' and OOC until drawn to use in place of the hilt that hangs in IC view from the belt.

Sadly not, well not this time at ay roads.
Tis a cool idea tho.
I made an attempt using photoluminescant pigment in the latex mix, but unsurprisingly that failed big time.

Ah that's a pity, I've heard various folks talk about doing it but I've never seen it done. Maybe on version two eh?

But .. erm, you're a little late to the party, if you read a couple of posts up, you'll see that I've already decided to go via the two prop route.

Not only that, but I seem to have blanked the part where you mean the "just the bit held in the hand" aspect rather than the "goes across the blade" bit I'd leapt at. Quillions????

But I do think LRP is a hobby best enjoyed in a positive state of mind.
If you approach a game with a positive attitude then you're more likely to enjoy yourself there.
