We're considering running a small fest style of Hyborian Tales event next year, as an experiment. This would probably be a one-off and we'd go back to adventures + taverns next year.
The idea is that we'd have around 60 player places + 40 crew / staff, with much less of an emphasis on physical fitness and gruelling challenges. We'd keep the strongly plotted evenings & entertainments, and build some similar plot into the daytimes too. There would be the opportunity to do short, "mission" type adventures & quests (an hour or two at a time, similar to shorter versions of the adventures we usually do) for those who wanted, but enough other stuff going on that those who didn't want to do that would also be involved in the game. There would be something of a PVP element, since the setting would be a city with around 5 different factions vying for control, but PVP would not be the main focus.
There would probably be slight tweaks to the game system to make for better fest-style play, but it would be possible to bring existing HT characters into it.
Cost around £60 for the weekend, uncatered. Site to be confirmed, but we'd like to get Candleston. Date also TBC, but sometime in high summer (July/August), not clashing with other significant LRP events (Maelstrom, Gathering, Renewal).

Otherwise usually crew ("Quite spry & fit, & willing to wear a big costume & run around a lot" -- various event organisers)

I'd definitely consider it. I remember coming across the website last year when I first started getting in to Conan and thinking "this sounds awesome, but I'm not sure my poor, overworked, previously dislocated knees would be up to it." I might even throw my hat in for crewing, but it would depend on exactly when the event was. I'm a TA and I can't get time off outside of school holidays.

| Would/will attend, there is a possibility of some more of the Guernsey crowd being interested, a couple were put off by the "lots of walking / lots of fighting" feel of the linear format. We "the Shemites" would consider paying to attend and then offering ourselves as crew for the weekend if you ran the conclusion to our quest at the start of the event with a ridiculously over-sized crew for us :-)

Definitely interested in a ‘festy sedate’ type version of Hyborian Tales. Yep, definite, yep.

| Sounds good to me... I'd definitely consider it if it didn't clash with anything too important. Plus it may be at Candleston, which is always a bonus. Especially now they've started re-landscaping it (albeit with what appears to be a shredded kitchen) and have properly opened up the woodland to the east.

Will definitely play if I'm around. I think the year long gap between events isn't doing you any favours.

It's either a year-long gap, or paying us a professional wage for weeks of preparation (which would mean charging players around the £200 each mark), or not running any events at all.

Defiantley up for it, would probably even pay to crew, strike that, would pay to crew if Sven could hang about a tavern night or two........
