Can I be cheeky and ask you for your views on it... assuming you get on of course. I'm nosey to learn but too lazy to play.

Got a guy at work who has a beta account and by all accounts it is a great game, and considered to be a WoW-killer.

Course, he's not a Warhammer fan so not sure how a seasoned roleplayer/battlegamer would take it. I'm just disappointed at the lack of a Slaaneshi player character class

Is this the fabled Warhammer Online that was first announced in an issue of White Dwarf wayyyyyy back in 2000 with a screenshot of some Orcs riding war boars ?

You know, since that was also coined as Warhammer Online.

Which reminds me, anyone interested in buying a limited edition 25th anniversary Emperor's Champion ? There were 50 of this particular one.

This is the second incarnation of Warhammer Online. The first attempt you refer to was done by GW and some tinpot company with no MMO experience, and didn't get off the virtual drawing board. This version is being produced by Mythic Entertainment, creators of Dark Age of Camelot, who (imo) produced the best PvP MMO ever. It looks promising from what I've seen, but I don't have a beta invite yet. It's pretty much guaranteed to be one of the two big MMOs of 2008 along with Age of Conan.

I'd try it out except my computer barely runs Sega Saturn and PSOne games as it is ... yes, I own the discs so it isn't illegal =P

Actually, it's still illegal to format-shift (copy CDs to MP3 players, copy games on to a PC and run emulators etc). You are unlikely to ever be prosecuted for doing this sort of thing, but it's worth being aware of it.

There is a public consultation going on at the moment regarding making some changes to this aspect of copyright law, you can find out more here: http://www.openrightsgroup.org/2008/01/08/consultation-on-proposed-changes-to-copyright-exceptions-launched/

Swinging back on topic, I'm excited about Warhammer Online, and will hopefully give it a go when it's released, which is saying a lot as I've steadfastly avoided Warcrack for years now.

I'll have a look at that, but be aware that the games' discs run in my PC, so I'm not copying info across; Saturn games can run on a PC since the console shares similar software and don't have read-only files, but those BIOS files or whatever.

The BIOS files are proprietary software themselves. There's a big issue with Amiga Kickstart ROMs online, for example.
