| hi, me and a buddy are fantasy larpers, and have decided we would like to give the modern / post-apocolyptic stuff a try. there is a group of about 5 of us looking to try out some events, two larpers, one air softer and two newbies! we like the look of the Nexxus system, but we want something bigger (if such a system exists!). we dont want anything to sci-fi and deffinatly no rip off systems like Star Gate or Star Wars! (sorry guys, but we're imaginative and creative. we dont wanna copy something that already exists!). so give your system a big shout! and we hope we find one we like! cheers - Billy

| At present, I am not aware of any system running modern or sci fi that is bigger than about 30 players. I could be wrong, of course, but I have not seen any game advertised which would count as a 'fest' system. There has not been the percieved market to run large scale events in this genre as yet. Take a look at the campaign boards below and the associated webpages to get an idea of what is out there at the moment. A few ideas: Waypoint - possibly too sci fi from what you say but I have to mention it as it is my system. There is the possibility to play post apocalyptic characters. In fact, there is a lot of flexibility to play pretty much anything from a range of sci fi concepts. www.waypointlrp.co.uk Riftworld - A very good horror sci fi event with lots of intense roleplaying, big guns and things with tentacles. Prop and costume standards are very high. http://www.riftworld.co.uk/ Alone - by Mandala LRP. A one off fame using the Gunfest rules. I won't say any more about it as it may spoil the surprise (I crewed this last time and they are planning to run the same plot again for a second event) but if you like running around in the dark with a gun then this is the event for you I am not sure of the web address but I think it comes up on a search on Mandala LRP.

The Lasertag guys used to do quite large games, Dropzone springs to mind, but I can't remember exact numbers, that'd be probably as big as you'd get. Don't know if they are still running there hasn't been a great cross over between Trad LRP and Lasertag for some reason.

| some gunfests are invite only. By that I mean that sometimes we just like to get a group of close friends together and run a loose game. We don't advertise those. However since Alone we've opened up the gunfest rules for use in other games we run - and those which are open we do advertise. Eg in October, Hellfire and in February Alone 1.5. Basically - any events advertised on the Mandala website you can quite happily book for.

I am working on a probably club style airsoft/larp in a post apocalyptic setting, mix of guns and "magic". May well be running the first event next year, it's just a pain finding a decent site here in the North West. I'll consider setting up a website soon so people can give ideas and feedback :-)

| Hi all. As one of the guys from the Lazer-Tag sectiuon of the LRP hobby I thought I'd better reply regarding Shelford's post. Yes we are still running, and Dropzone is still going (it was last weekend). Again, we're probably a bit too SF for what you're looking for Billy, We do run modern day Delta Green 'Call Of Cthulhu' events, but maybe that's too 'horror' based for you. (I suppose that posts an interesting question - How SF is too SF?). Plus a lot of our stuff is unashamedly 'genre' based (like Star Wars), as that's what a lot of people want to play. As regards cross-overs with 'trad roleplay', I'm not sure quite what that means. Most of us don't attend 'mainstream' fantasy events like maelstrom if that's what you mean, but we'd like to invite anyone who wants to try our system to turn up and see what we're about. Please - come and play! We are very much a role-playing system. If we weren't, we'd be on a forum with the 'milsim' people, but on the few occasions we've spoken to them they've made it clear they think we're 'lrp weirdos'. I think I'd rather be a lrp weido really. H http://www.myownlittleworld.org.uk/lasertag/ http://www.myownlittleworld.org.uk/dropzoneonline/
