Ok, Sarah is asking for music which could actually exist in the Riftworld - played in city clubs, for example, and we have already had Fain's Minion's folk song (which I never heard sung but would like to see the lyrics for at some point and hear sung).

Now, I am looking for ideas of music which you think has some of the concepts or ideas of Riftworld but wouldn't be played IC - just over certain scenes or at the end credits. You know the sort of thing I mean...

I'll list mine later but I thought I would leave it open to the rest of you first...

I really enjoy film music and it strikes me that the main themes from Aliens or Starship Troopers would probably work pretty well. Mostly from a Xadac point of view of course!

For the Credits certainly Red Right Hand by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

A few of my ideas:

Suicide is Painless - Manic Street Preachers (ideal for the Xadacians )

Paint it black - Rolling stones. No idea why, it just seems to fit.

This is the new shit - Marylin Manson (practically Lyria's theme... )

I keep hearing the theme from Last of the Mohicans play whenever Aela is fighting...

Ahh, not just me then.

Musically.. I rather like the movie themes idea - most of what I listen to is either EBM/Industrial or metal and I get the feeling most might say 'who?' sadly.

I always think of City as some kinda Bladerunner style affair (only with a roof) but I think Vangelis might be far too mellow... will have to see what else I can dig out!

I caught the end of this thread.

Much as I am not a Riftworld player, I'd happily compose something suitable should people give me ideas, am always looking for sources of inspiration.

Can do classical, synth ambient, etc...

Want to bet?

Thinking about it I've always had a mental image of City that's closer to the City level in Flashback than Bladerunner.  Besides, City misses one important part of the Bladerunner feel - It generally doesn't rain

As has been mentioned Fain/Martin has composed some theme tunes for various of the NPCs/Things out there which are semi-IC and unlikely to be played to Players.

This sig left intentionally blank

Ideas:
Cyberates:
Hard metal, industrial, noisier and scarier end of Orbital, Prodigy, Fsol-specifically Dead Cities, (Oc Rob Zombie and MManson shared with the Darker Angels)

Citiers:
Ambient and hard Trance, Aphex Twin, BT, dancier end of Orbital, Ladytron

I've always felt they are more electronica than metal, so Rammstein, Korn etc is lost to the Darker Angels I think. Actually Rammstein and Tool are on a loop in Rackman's head. Plus whatever
Maybe even a bit of VAST from time to time...

Westers: Folk. Maybe some fusion stuff like Martyn Bennet - Bothy Culture etc, Afro-celt? Ballady rock. Much as I hate to say it, prob. some sea-shanties...

Shengui:
Trad. Medieval (NOT greensleeves though you slags), Bulgarian Choir, Native American, Maori, Dead Can Dance for the priesty types.

Nanolords:
Probably a great variety, but let's be honest - jazz will be in there.

All Xadacians obviously listen to the "A-Team theme"....
Maybe some Linkin Park of a night.

No-one except perhaps madder Skukiers or Twisted listen to Country and Western....the music of pain.

My own composed stuff for RW, which is generally to help me write, includes (pulls on 'pretentious hat' ):
A RW Theme - just a general RW feeling, which mistakenly encompasses feelings of hope, amongst the Twisted outbursts of violence. Electronica/grungy guitar riff/cello stuff.
City Street - blippy techno track with hints of kids messing around in traffic-filed tunnels.
Cryptland - For those of you who probe dark buried places in OA. Full of electronic door locks opening, vague machine sounds and sudden Beasties.
Rackman - Birth of a persistant bastard... which David and Sarah have heard.
Winged God - A cross between skydiving, a pounding headache and a visit to the dentist...and those damn wingbeats...
Spined Wolf - Dog action, pursuit, pointless gunfire.
Lat-la-Wah - Sombre, tribal history, hunters-face-to-the-wind kind of stuff.
Rifts - Early dancy one, which seems to have no other purpose than to freak my ears and practice using the software...
Xadac Falling - The blasts, the follow up hordes, the rescuers. Bit of a soundtrack rather than a number. It even has a fade out.
In the Freezer - Hints of Arctic submarine action, for all of you who have been in Stasis...
Litsidewalkabout - Another early one, just a dance track with a general hint of warning about wilderness-travel to it.

- Come to Riftworld:the sun never shines, tomorrow is not a better day, but you can drink and swear all you like. That's when we attack.-

"And not to pull your halo down around your neck and tug you off your cloud....but I'm more than just a little curious..."

"This wicked tongue says, go on - taste everything...and the noise is as much as I can bear..."
