Day dream about a character you would like to play from the verse
Take a look atte Serenity role play game.
Take a look at the website http://www.serenity-lrp.co.uk/
Work out the character generation system and create your charatcer using that.
Write up their background using all the new ideas you will have had from the world guide and game system generation.
Email the refs and check it is ok with them
find a friendly player to froth about the game and ideas. (this can be done at any point int he process)
sort out costume
and then bring good humour and have fun.

The dear Miss Heather has it mostly right.
There are plans for Event 3, plans which are liekly to occur later this year, hopefully before the good weathers end (start?)

Social characters seem to work well especially if you are planning on coming along by yourself. One of the best things about the game is the interaction between the player characters so even new ship crews could do with at least one peson willing to talk to everybody else. There is a high sense of cammadrie that really helps give it that Firefly feel.
