I'd also like to score a cheap point by mentioning that whenever serious Western Martial Artists do some sword sparring with kendoka, the WMAers tend to kick major arse.

Yay! Plus WMAers get to kick people inna bollocks.

No video, sorry. I only have personal experience & observation, plus talking to a fair few people in both camps.

So we have Mr Stroud on camera, Mr Sturrock as Western Martial Arts geezer, all we need is a kendo loon and a new You Tube vid is born.

West meets East - the final showdown.

I'm not really a WMA practitioner, TBH, other than a few bits & pieces self-taught from books -- I don't have a local group to practice with. That said, I've still found I can beat most kendoka, assuming similar-length weapons, using what (very little) I know of WMA techniques. Most sport fencers trounce me though, with one-handed weapons...

Does the kendo loon have to be Asian?

Are they going to be real (but blunt) swords?

Actually, how cool would a HT youtube vid be?  good lookin' props and fightin'... could be an answer to ones where they let magic users on camera.

There is only overconfidence and terror.

As it happens I am what could be regarded as a WMA practitioner... I have a tutor and everything. When I get a bit better at it this video will need to be made.

It is vitally important that people finally get to see what happens when a knight and a samurai fight.

And as for using real but blunt weapons... oh hell yeah! Wasters are fine for classes, but this'll need to look as good as possible.

well looking at the vid, a katana can cut 3 50 call bullets, in half when they are fired at said katana, though I wonder how many bullets a katana can cut in half when there just lying on a table
