Hey guys,

I've been trying to look around for a decent Cavalier's hat for quite a while, and beyond the Adventurer's Mart, I've been unable to find anything. I'm looking for a big, broad brimmed black felt or leather hat with the right side pinned up, preferably with a large feather too. Can anyone direct me to a UK company that will sell me one without making my wallet explode?

Thanks

Sadly no, but I'd point out that some tricorns could be converted by undoing two of the three folds. You'd need a careful look at it first though to see if it's suitable, and you'd be left with some little holes, so it's not ideal.

I'd be interested to hear of a source too, especially in leather.

Oh, and when searching it's worth trying "musketeer" as well as "cavalier", though still you'll find mostly cheap-and-nasty fancy-dress hats.

There are a hell of a lot of American companies selling them, for example Excalibur Leather, MWArt, Renboots, Pyrate and so on, but nothing in the UK that I can find.

I'd rather not have to import, but as I'm going out to a Ren Faire in Connecticut in July during job training (and thus missing Maelstrom event III), I'll see what's available.

The only UK supplier I can find is Monster Boutique

http://www.monster-boutique.com/

Go there and enter HG164 in the search box (site's all in frames so I can't link direct to the page)

Maelstrom - Thomas Blunt, Archon of the Apple Cartel (Until I can con someone else into doing it )

That search finds the monster-boutique one and several others, at prices from around a tenner to a bit over £40.

No details about any of the ones I looked at though, very small pictures, and no choice of sizes so they're unlikely to fit any given head.

The one from Adventurer's Mart comes in a range of sizes, but doesn't cope well with hours in the rain, which is why I'd much prefer a leather one.

(Mind you, felt CAN be made to cope with wet. An Akubra copes pretty well, though I'm not sure what happens when it gets soaked right through.)

Oh, oh, bitter laughter. How ironic.

I just did a Google search for
cavalier OR musketeer hat leather
with the "pages from the UK" option, and the top-ranking result was this thread.
