WeaselsWithMalletsRule (5/3/2007) And if we took out the stairs, we'd be a bit stuffed in the long run - once we'd run out of hoarded food. I'd vote for barricading the stairs and setting up check-point type things on a few different floors to make sure no one snuck round. Maybe some booby-traps too.
I refer you to the source upthread:
Several boards lying on the stairs and some motor oil. Wouldn't stop a smart opponent, they'd lift up the boards. Might work against the living dead.

Best thing is to keep moving, then you cant get trapped/bogged down.
Head to countryside - less people = less (potential) zombies
Boat would be a good idea, if you know how to sail, but keep it small or there is a chance of an internal outbreak.
As for guns/oriental weapons, forget them. - bullets run out and swords loose thier sharpness.
Use a garden spade or similar. Their strong, easy to carry, legal to store, and, if you need food (which you will eventually), they can be used (without damaging them) to break into stores and growing own food.
Plus, your going to look more friendly with a spade over your shoulder than an AK in your mits.

It is a source of frustration to me that the correct thing to do in preparedness for this situation is to get a patch of land somewhere obscure but farmable and learn how to subsistance farm it. Especially as I've had this feeling for some years now that there's likely to be a much more conventional 'first they came for the Jews' or 'people's ability to individually cause large-scale devastation with limited resources gets unsustainably high' style 'apocalypse' reasonably shortly.

It'd probably be better to be a hunter gatherer (Kalahari bushmen for instance have a 20 hour "working week") if it wasn't for all the zombies/zombie refugees turned bad/subsistence farmers with shotguns.

Depends on the zombie 'type'.
If its classic shufflers, steal a taxi (they got radios in em see) load up with as many of your loved ones as you can (that many of you seem to have forgotten... bastards) load up with a few 2 handed Axes, 2 handed Masonary hammers (they work best and dont run out of ammo) and plenty of food, water and penecillin (head briefly to the local hospital if needs be).
Now get out to the countryside (Mr Hoppy knows the score).
If its the nu-skool running zombies we're all buggered. I'll do myself in.

MattJ (5/3/2007) A bunch of us formulated a plan years ago. Lets just say it invloves going to the secret nuclear bunker in Essex.
Along with how many other people?
"Too, there are a lot of people thinking about what to do if the time for fleeing comes. A lot of people will be headed for the same spots. (Don't laugh that off, either. In my area, every eighth person has confided his secret retreat spot to me. And about half of them are all headed for the same spot: an old missile silo devoid of water and food. I suspect that the battle at the gates of the old missile base will rival the Little Big Horn.)"

Yep I don't like the idea of being trapped in a building let alone a bunker. It would have to be a boat for me. I live about a mile from the Trent so there's bound to be something I can grab down at the local mariner. I'm assuming zombie can't swim though and be avoiding zombies dropping off bridges.
