Besides I'm fed up picking up other peoples fag butts around our IC tent after packing up.

Heh! I concur.

You aint mean enough... we kick people out who can't use the Ashtray.... same for people who can't chuck tinnies in the bin.

At Mealstrom, we have been known to point large numbers of pistols at them while we ask them very politely to use the ashtray/bin. Seems to work, but only if we notice them doing it.

I may be at the same event as you, but that does not mean I am playing the same game.

Definition of 'public'?

To me, we're not 'public' at events - we're paying people who are customers and, gah, don't have the words, but, definition please?

For the purposes of the ban we are all "the public", customers in pubs, clubs, cinema's, LRP events or any venue which is not a private residence. Any covered areas provided as part of the event would count as public areas.

So basically if you class the tavern as a private residence (which you can as it is owned by an individual with no mortgage) You can allow smoking in there.

Job done.

Whilst the courts don't call it rule 7 the principle still applies.

See personally I hate this kind of wheeze - because I'm looking forward to ~not~ being surrounded by smokers a lot of places I go.

Sorry, I don't think it works that way- as it applies to public buildings and commercial premises, you might get away with it if your tavern was a "members/invite only" as it would then be "private".
But hell, how hard is to walk 20 yards outside the tavern so that I don't have to partake of your drug addiction. It's not like this new law is unreasonable- if people started "chasing the dragon" in public buildings evereyone would hit the roof, yet heroin and cokaine are much less harmful than tobacco, and consequently passively smoking them would be equally less harmful.

There's a massive difference between coke, heroin and tobacco - let alone the effects they have on a person's mind and body, the first two are illegal whereas tobacco is not. I'd personally question the statement that there 'much less harmful than tobacco' and would love to see the evidence. I've spent a fair bit of time dealing with the aftermath of heroin addiction* and it's not pretty.

Having said that and despite being a smoker (currently) myself, I think the ban is a great idea and I'm relatively surprised the Taverns etc aren't already smoke-free.
