Id say that those were personal - as in private - as they are not provided by the event organisers for the use of all and sundary.
the ban does not, from what I understand, extend to private residences which you could argue those types of tent were....possibly..... not sure really.

StuartMaher (4/25/2007) In my view all a good thingIf you say so... Personally I'm struggeling to see how having 70mm no smoking signs at every entrance is going to add to the ambience... No more so than self illuminated fire exit signs do. Of course the ambigous part is group/faction/colony communal tents. After readin the act wording, it looks as though these will be included as it specifies that enclosed spaces includes tents, visiting members of the public include "public has access to them, whether by invitation or not, and whether on payment or not" and workers include volentary workers. So if your tent can at any time contain any othe rplayers or staff members (Which any IC area can) then it would fall under the ban. Now as to who is responsible for smoking in a group/faction/colony tent.. I have no idea "It is the duty of any person who controls or is concerned in the management of smoke-free premises to cause a person smoking there to stop smoking." This seems unclear to me

CAIMHIN (4/25/2007) If the legislation is the same as that in place in Scotland (and in Ireland when I've been back home) it only counts as an enclosed space if it has walls on 3 or more of it's 4 sides (don't ask me how they judge irregularly shaped spaces-I "think" it's 60% or more of perimeter walled in - so if you have 2 or 3 sides of a marquee open you can legally smoke in itNot if the marquee has walls you have taken down. the 60% clause cannot include doors, windows or "any other fittings that can be open or shut"

You shouldn't really be smoking inside flammable objects anyway.

| LT runs a licenced bar which from what i gather would fallinto the banned catagory, i would also expect the police to come down to check as they did to check for the ic bar thing last year due to the 24 hour drinking thing. this is mearly said as speculation and observation but doesn't really matter to me as I've managed to quit the whole smoking shindig (finally)

I imagine it's also possible the bar at maelstrom will be affected by the ban given it's definitely enclosed and public. Personally I will be quite happy about this as I work out of there ic, and thus spend much of each event trying not to breathe as I get about 3 months worth of passive smoking over the space of one weekend, but I can see how it would suck for those who do like to smoke inside in the nice warm dry space where the beer is.

Why do you think they charge higher insurance premiums for those that do?

| The Ban is already in effect in Wales and includes a 15 metre smoke free zone around public buildings (Gov't and Local Authority)which is a real pain in the arse to police- the big issue for definitions of outside are 3 out of 4 walls and/or more than 50% roof coverage- so a pub yard can be used for smoking but not if it has 50% roofage- including canvas screening or umbrellas!
