| Will the smoking ban that is coming into effect in July affect larps? and if so how? Has anyone who is running a LRP considered it's effect?

| I suspect nothing as LRPs aren't done in 'enclosed public places and workplaces'... For those of you having trouble sleeping may I point you at: http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2006/20063368.htm
PD Head Ref- but as all posts here count as being unofficial, you'll need to email rules@PD for the real deal. And in those oh so rare moments of going IC: Detric of the Bespoke Atelier (and your host for the erotic performance show) whilst my gnoll is on an extended leave of absence in deference to my ex-wife...

| Surely that is only most larps? And aren't there enclosed places at a large proportion of sites?

It depends on whether the enclosed spaces count as workplaces and based on my own experiences those which are already prohibit smoking indoors.

This PDF file contains a lot of ahem useful information and some diagrams. If your really that concerned I would suggest looking at http://www.smokefreeengland.co.uk which is the website set up to tell us all about the change in legislation.
Enclosed spaces are defined in the booklet as well.
While it is true that many LARPs have enclosed areas - common sense will come into play and smokers will have to nip outside or move away from the enclosed area. I dont think this will cause too much problem. Most indoor sites (youth hostels scout huts etc) have been smoke free for a while I think. Certainly at places like Wilderhope Manor you have never been allowed to smoke inside - this has never been too much of a problem in my experience.
Also look at the nature of the property or enclosed space - Im pretty sure the house we are using later in the year will still allow smoking in it - being a private let property and not a public site. The Storm hut at Candelstone however may well suffer the ban - as it is enclosed thoretically on 3 out of 4 sides. But as I said if you want to smoke you just move out of the shelter a little bit.
Hope that helps a bit
And if you think it may effect LARP - pah try telling actors they can no longer smoke in the tour VAN - when they are about to leave on a 3 month tour.

| So, from reading that, on the big three fest systems, all their tents and marquee's must be smoke free, as well as any buildings they are using. In my view all a good thing

History is an important source for LRP. Along with other works of fiction.

No more so than self illuminated fire exit signs do. Of course the ambigous part is group/faction/colony communal tents.
