I'm told that this "grimas" is better than snazaroo. I'm sure that this is probably true but it seems to cost a lot more for a lot less, so I'm wondering if someone could review it for me. I'm mostly interested in the bright yellow stuff if that helps.
I'm also by the way, not very good with makeup techniques so please use small words if it's going to be more complex than "dab on sponge, apply sponge to face".

| Snazaroo = Kids face paint Grimas = Professional quality stage/media makeup I use Grimas all the time. It stays put longer than Snaz, is easier to remove and it is nicer for the skin. Yes it seems more expensive... but at a recent event our monsters were running round all day in hot weather, sweating and wiping their faces and their grimas makeup was still on and visible after a 4 hour fight. Its is a much better quality makeup, especially if you are using prosthetics. Their cream based makeup works really well with prosthetics. I would suggest you buy a pot of yellow (if thats the colour your after) in both types and see which works better for you. Makeup is a very personal choice. I much prefer Grimas or Leichner but many people will say snaz is great

There are two types of Grimas make-up, cake and creme. I use the creme pretty much exclusively because it is designed for use in sweaty environments and doesn't come off without at least using soap. You also don't use water when applying it and is a little harder to use than a water based makeup.

Assume that my make up education stopped with the "sponge and water" routine. Is there anywhere I can learn to use Grimas or do I just stick it on a sponge and thence my face or what? PS how do I get it off again?

The only issue with Grimas I've found is that it tends to go a bit flakey after a while. I must admit that I tend to use Snaz more often as I find the colours are more vibrant without being too garish.

| A sponge or brush is fine for applying the makeup. If you want to learn more about makeup check out your local FE Colleges especially any that run beauty courses, as they sometimes do theatrical makeup courses which can be very good. To remove the creme makeup you need to use makeup remover. I find that most normal makeup removers work fine but you may need to try a couple to find one that you like. I use the boots makeup removing wipes cos they are usually on 3 for 2. But baby wipes work just as well. As with any makeup test a little on a small area to check your not allergic and you should do fine.

from talking to people who drow up a lot and setting up painted encounters, I ve found that a layer of face paint ( i use Snazeroo, i find Grimmas is too good ) then i coat with a layer of spray. You can get yellow spray ( usually for hair) but its good as a seal for the paint. my two pence ps for any 'training' volunteer for the local Amdram group as a make up person, after making up half a dozen blokes for La Cage Aux Folles you have your make up application perfected

| After a couple of recommendations around here I ordered some Grimas and although I've not "event tested" it yet, I wore some for a few hours round the house and it was brilliant. Easy to apply, easy to remove and the coverage was great. It didn't feel too heavy either. Cooking in a hot kitchen didn't make it run (and I sweat a lot when | | | |
