Ok, first i am from Croatia. There has been some larp here but not much, and the event that has been going died.

Anyway im going to organise a new event, new rules, new location and i have some ideas. Fantasy larp. Right now im researching and i want to know how larps are done in the rest of the world, what do you fight with, what are your rules, how do you manage stuff etc...

So i have just browsed this forum and didn't had time yet to scrounge it completely, but once i do i will have few questions so if some one would be kind to answer them.

For beginning what is a kit? I noticed some discussion about it.

'Kit' refers to a character's costume and accessories... everything from the shirt on your back to the sword at your hip is 'kit'.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for swift reply.

Ok, now i have browsed around a bit, and have some more questions.

how many players average on your lrps?

How exactly linear lrp functions? about 10 people dragged from action to action?
and what after? and how long does it take?

thank you for tolerating my questions

.

how many players average on your lrps?

This is hard to answer, they vary massivly, from arroud 5 people at a small horror game i play in to arround 3000 at the gathering, id guess, most weekend games arround the country average at the 30-50 player mark, with the big 3 averagiung about 700 an event between them? at a guess

No problem Chromat welcome to Rule7, great to have some new opinions.

Rules systems are usually devised by players who become event organisers. LRP events have from 10 to three thousand people in the UK, the larger games are called Fests.

Linears are adventures usually structured into encounters - like you get in a table top roleplaying book. The player party goes from encounter to encounter with the crew playing different roles in each new situation. Usually, linears have a "final battle/ conclusion" encounter at the end.

Hope this helps.

Ok, thanks, im asking this because we here had larp event that started to grow. we discovered idea very recently. it was nice when relatively small number of people participated i dunno, up to 40 i guess, but when it reached critical mass of around 100 people it started to fall apart. I think system we used (amtgard - some american sh*t) is partialy to be blamed, but also we had no ideas how to coordinate such number of players in game.

But now i am interested in organizing a new event, and a big one. Not big form the beginning but i plan for it to grow. And i am trying to figure how does it works, these big events, with as much as 3000 people ( wow! ) how are things set up to coordinate such massive number of people?

Ideas i have up to now, would be to organize one medieval fair- like event for whole mass of people, and linear quests for groups. the setting would be around dark ages, with relatively small amount of magic and our slavic thematics, pantheon and such.

from resources, i have support from one of our local nobility and their land (most of it on a 40-60 degree slope, but near the capitol ), and structures ( in a bit of disrepair but still ) and a community relatively hungry for any such event.

I am lacking some experience. while i have been in organisation of such events, they were very low in standard compared to your lrps, and lacking massively in a number of areas.

I also have to come up with a system for such event, and i have found most of them to be similar, and few very nice ideas.

So, any help is appreciated, thank you.

We host forums for the three main UK live roleplaying fest games, they are the first three on the system forum list below.

You can also check out their company websites:

http://www.lorientrust.com

http://www.curiouspastimes.co.uk

http://www.profounddecisions.co.uk

Fest system rules are generally simple with an emphasis on self policing and being simple. I have just finished writing the Eos Rules(which you'll find on the Eos forum down the page), its set to start running in October and is a quasi fest system - in that most of the rules would work for a fest scale event apart from some of the magic.

The good thing with Profound Decisions' rules set is that it's open copyright so if you see something you like you can put it in your own rules (remembering to mention them in the document out of politeness).

Yes that is good. Ive already read most of those, and found most of them similar, differing mostly in some skills, little bit in safety regulations and counting of body hit locations and hit points and little else. And ive got a general idea what i want and what will i put into rulebook. I will certanly mention systems i have read.

There is some of difference between our countries. Mostly in amount of money people can provide. Also the carbon core - latex foam weapons are unheard of, and i have never seen one. We are
