Hi folks,
A few of us are looking to run our first event later this year - generic fantasy sort of thing - and I was wondering if you had any words of wisdom? Or just words, I'm easy.
Is there a list of useable/available/popular event sites online anywhere?
Any commonly overlooked pitfalls waiting to entrap us?
Cheers,
- Drek Orc

Write all your plot before. Then write some more. And some more.
That way, when your players solve the weekends plot in the first 20mins you have a back-up.
If you can't beat your computer at chess, try kickboxing.

Best bet for your first time is to goto somwhere that you have played, and have the person who ran that 1 put you in touch with 1

Aim to make a small profit on each event you run (even if you only intend to plough that profit into future events, rather than use it to fund your addiction to World of Warcraft or whatever). That way, when you go massively overbudget, you might just end up breaking even rather than having to pay for a huge loss out of your own pockets.

PD: Ghostdance ("The most irritating curse I've ever encountered" -- NPC played by H.)
Riftworld: Rossar Kuug ("Clearly mad, because he thinks he's a Com-Trow Skirmisher" - Aela)
Hyborian Tales: Crew, cook, dogsbody, general labourer, toilet cleaner ("Dangerously overoptimistic ref" -- Tom Nowell)
Otherwise usually crew ("Quite spry & fit, & willing to wear a big costume & run around a lot" -- various event organisers)
"My other oversized foam weapon is THE LORD" -- Questionable Content

Site wise it really depends on how long you're running it for, whether you want camping or indoors, what other facilities you might need and your budget

We're looking at around 50 players, 50 monsters. Outdoors, preferable with woods. Weekend long camping sort of thing.
Does anyone have a list of sites that are used by larpers?

One starting place could be Scoutbase
Scout sites are notoriously hard to book in the summer, but during the off-season they're not incredibly expensive.
You could also look through the pagga lrp-site archives.
