So let me get this straight: Flagelation (self or not) is a strict No-no when it comes to the LT. But playing a character who specifally exists to mug other players by stabbing them to the ground and stealing their possesions is perfectly ok?

The difference being that nobody is likely to find your portrayal of their real-world beliefs on mugging or murder offensive. Religious terms/practices on the other hand...

You've lost me on that one. Are there alot of religious self-flaggellators that go to the LT then?

I said their beliefs around real world practices/terms - that doesn't mean that only people who actually practice those acts can have a view and have that view offended.

Ok, so people *might* get offended by representation of flogging.
Why is there complaint valid, whereas (i am willing to bet) If i complained about the general level of violence in the game, i would be told to go elsewhere?

| Self-flagellation is (in my opinion something) that has been banned only at this event by the LT (or one of their representatives in the form of a Ref) This opinion is supported by the fact that they were not immeadiately banned and many Refs found them quite amusing... hence they were blatantly doing nothing that made people immeadiately think..." thats a rule breach that is" ...they were only banned after an alleged complaint. Any arguments about 'what they were flagellating with' are irrelevant since they voluntered to use LRP safe weapons.

and continue related flagellation and discussion here instead!
Surely if we're talking about the specifics of a ruling at the LT it should be in the LT topic (so that people thinking about playing at the LT can get hold of relevant info on what is/is not acceptable)?

Based on what? Seems to me lots of people complain about the Muggerwockey and I've seen complaints about having their characters killed.
Exactly who is going to complain about self-flagellation? It's hardly mainstream Church of England.
Or do you mean that larp games/the LT should steer clear of anything serious/real-world related for fear that it might cause offence? We can have races, beliefs, conflicts - but only so long as they are so silly that there is no chance that anyone could compare them to the real world? Can I assume that slavery is out too?
As has been pointed out, having seen the aftermath of "Jerry Springer: The Opera" - immensely, directly blasphemous - is there really reasonable cause to believe that religious groups are going to waste their time on a load of insular geeks when they have much better targets? "Jerry Springer: The Opera" did the rounds in Birmingham early this year - full house, even on the last day of the run - about 6-8 people handing out leaflets outside. So long as said opera is doing it's run I think larp will be completely off the radar.
Saying we should avoid self-flagellation (an extremely rare Christian practice) for fear that it will bring down serious legal attacks seems completely hysterical (have any larp groups been threatened with legal action on these grounds?).
