Was wondering...

If curved core weapons could be produced in substantial numbers would there be a market for them?

How many people would be interested in getting the above designs, or others with a curved core?

What are "the above designs"?

Hypothetically I'd be interested in someday owning approximately three curved LRP weapons: a long sabre with a fairly shallow backward curve, a short hunting hanger with a backward curve, and a falcata or kukri with a forward curve. But even if you had them ready to sell at Maelstrom next weekend, I probably wouldn't buy one till at least next year, and it'd then take another year or two before I could reasonably budget for either of the others.

I'd love to have some curved LRP weapons -- but they'd mostly be a novelty rather than an essential.

Ian,

To be honest, a friend (who is a fibre glasser) has made a sample scimitar and is looking at other options. The cores are custom made and as such are nothing like the standard ones. I wanted to have a bit of a discussion about the viability of making up weapos like this over the next couple of weeks so I could give him some advice.

I should think there'd definitely be a market for katanas... and I'd certainly buy a sabre.

I believe that Sean from Skian Mohr already sells curved cores and weapons made using said cores, so yes is the answer, there is a market for them.

I'd be interested too - depending on price. I've read up about how to make cores myself and frankly I'm far too lazy to start messing about with it, so reasonably priced ready made curves would be good.

I'd potentially be interested in buying curved cores at some point in the future. I've seen afew about And I think that if curved weapons were produced commercially there'd be a market for them - lots of people buy straight katanas made the traditional way - so I imagine they'd happily buy a curved one if it passed safety checks (And I dont see why it wouldn't as I know maelstrom pass curved weapons.)

The person I have been referring to is Doug from Vealeather (aka doug n jayne on Rule7). They are linked from the Trader's Bazaar area.

Drop them a PM or email from the website links and I'm sure they'll be happy to discuss both cores and particular weapon designs. The Scimitar prototype Doug did was perfectly safe to use at LRP events.

Met Doug at skullduggerylarp the other day and his curved blades are nice. He explained how he made them and they are made to usual larp standards. I wish I played a pirate!

Their leather stuff is really awesome, the photos on their website don't do them justice.

They are also nice and cheap, they sold a double back scabbard for £20, including the belts. Man they are nice.
