Hmm, not sure why I'm still up but this took my interest...

Bacon girl, good on ya

Agree with Matt on the date thing, go for late in the year as it fits with the genre and lrpers often like a last hurrah before Winter hits, or early in the season. If I know the date and I'm not running Nycto then I'll see if I can't persuade some folks (big chap with black beard by the name of Gunn lives round the corner). Writers I'm guessing you'll be fine but if not I know several looking for vehicles for their vanity - I already have mine even if I need to concentrate on crew accomodation more.

In terms of pricing policy, discounts work not because the person needs the £5/10 but because it denotes an understanding of that person's situation. Best thing we ever did after dicounts for brining new players and re-enactment coinage...

Finally a question for everyone except possibly Matt. If we each took our respective clubs and each ran one event a year and turned up to each other's events then would that be better then what we're doing now?
I ask as I'd rather have fewer events of higher quality as I think that's what we need to do for our section of the hobby to go beyond eeking out survival which is where most of us are (we're lucky to be bankrolled but I imagine not everyone's in that position).
It's probably fluffy cloud type thinking but thought it was worth asking the question at least.

One of the reasons we only run Hyborian Tales once a year is that there are so many other good events on that we want to go to ourselves...

I do think that one great event per year is better than 2 or 3 good ones though. It reduces organizer burnout no end too.

Riftworld: Rossar Kuug ("Clearly mad, because he thinks he's a Com-Trow Skirmisher" - Aela)
Hyborian Tales: Crew, cook, dogsbody, general labourer, toilet cleaner ("Dangerously overoptimistic ref" -- Tom Nowell)
Otherwise usually crew ("Quite spry & fit, & willing to wear a big costume & run around a lot" -- various event organisers)

Heh, he already goes (he's one of the Guttormsson crowd). Though the Guts didn't manage to make the 2nd event.

Minty old boy, that was what the discussion point of the thread had become - how is any respective LRP organisor to run a Vikings event without you lot?

Certainly it would boost numbers to a lot of events, of course the issue would be that a lot of systems don't appeal to everyone, and those people would possibly resent having to wait 12 months at a time!, Mind you, better co-ordination of event dates would be helpful to avoid clashes which do consume a lot of the potential player base!

We did what we could with the last date. When we booked, there were the two LT events that I knew we were running against, but I couldn't find anything else that we clashed with at the time, especially as we didn't have many LT'ers at the first game.
Everyone else in the universe booked their game after we'd announced our dates.
Bloody scouts and their anniversaries...

Dont listen to me, I don't larp any more.
