This might be a little overly dramatic, but its a cause for concern. I've taken it from another LRP website.

---

There is at present a bill before the government to bring into law a COMPLETE ban on swords.

This means:

                    No more reenactment
                    No more martial arts using swords
                    No more fencing
                    No more collecting
                    No more sword dancing
                    No more sword making or selling
                    Restrictions on the Seik religious festivals where swords are worn.

Please help to stop this happening.  Sign up to the government anti legislation petition, it's at;

In the current climate I can't see any attempt to ban the amrit ceremony or wearing of the kirpan to be passed without massive controversy and opposition, especially in cities like Coventry which have a huge Sikh and Punjabi community.  Of course, a large number of Khalsa Sikhs wear Turbans and have funny accents, so they're clearly terrorists.

1. Online petitions have no effect. They are too open to abuse.

2. If you wish to protest please write to your MP or the minister reponsible directly.

3. As far as I can tell this was a bill from scotland, a watered-down version of which applying to 'samurai swords' didn't even make second reading in the UK. It doesn't appear to be in front of the government at all.

4. Fencing weapons would not be included as they have no blade.

5. Any legitimate user can be licensed.

Also, the proposed bans mentioned in the above post are from 2005 as far as I can tell, and were only concerned with sharps.
