| I've decided to start my hate campain against World of Warcrack (the true name of that menace to society, World of Warcraft). I've noticed once someone starts they never stop. It draws them in to a world of talking online to 14 year old Americans, a world where they'd rather go XP whoring than go down the pub. This is a travesty and must be stopped. Last weekend I was at a LRP game and was plagued by 3 of my friends constantly making WoW 'in' jokes by stealthing in a manner that the characters do in WoW i.e. very badly. THIS IS NOT A FUNNY JOKE OR IN FACE A JOKE AT ALL!!!!!! For my sanity ban the game and fill the pubs with gamers once more. Matty J

| Its a tragic game. you can't actually lose. Whats the point? Go kill thing get treasure. get harder... repeat ad nauseum. You die.... doesn't matter. Spend a few more hours at the PC.... which you were going to do anyway...

| Yeah, those fucking geeks. They should get a life and do something serious and socially acceptable, like dressing up as a wizard and beating their mates up with a rubber sword to prevent Lord Malevolent from stealing the crystals of Gablak. I hate MMORPGS and find them a complete waste of time, but somehow it still bothers me when roleplayers try to marginalise another hobby for being stupid. (and Ian - I know that your criticism was about the fact that WoW doesn't train you to survive in the steppes armed only with half a wolf's shin-bone, rather than how cool it isn't, but you're special)

It's mostly the waste of time that bugs me, rather than the stupidity. At least LRP has some kind of social, interactive side to it. And no, I don't count typing insulting text-speak to 12-year-old Koreans as social, or interactive.
However, since you've brought up how stupid they are, and since I can rant about that a bit as well... Why is it they're all so shit? Why is it that their game design seems to be based on 1970s tabletop RPGs? Character classes, hit points, levels... BUNCH OF ARSE! How about a bit of bloody originality?

It's not just the online stuff- my 15 year old son just spent the whole of 1/2 term playing Rome total war, every time I went out, he'd be on the PC conquering europe- when challenged about how long he spent on it, he'd think he'd only been 1/2 an hour- when in fact it was more like 6.
He loves LRP and is good at sports- what chance does someone who doesn't have outside interests have- no wonder we're getting 15 stone 11 year olds. ( I know I'm a fat bugger but at least I have the-lame- excuse of being in my mid forties, when I was a teenager I was as fit as a butchers dog and spent my weekends mountaineering- "rants and looks for carpet slippers" )
