So how deep is this river then? I've heard chainmail is a bitch to swim in...

Quite deep most likely. Chainmail is not going to be allowed. Unless you have a very long snorkel. Undercostume floatation jackets will most likely be mandatory.

Less of the "old"

Also bare in mind wollen costume is both very heavy and very restrictive when wet.

Ok LRPers that I've known for a while. Happy now?

We'll take into account all these kind of things. Might have to throw someone in as a play test.

Yes that is much better

I can think of a few people ideal to play test this.

Actually as long as it's relitively warm and there is absolulty no risk what so ever, or suggestion, mention, or idea of leeches, I don't mind going in the water.

Ron and I actually made IC swimwear for an event recently.

You just know that somebody is going to make one of those just to be awkward.

To be honest, you only drown in that much water if you are unconcsious and there is no one around to help you. If you have suitable equipment on hand (lifebelts, first aiders or lifeguard trained people who can do CPR), and ensure that there is at least one person on shore who therefore isn't likely to go down with the ship then you should be fine. Oh, and checking that everyone involved can swim or is at least able to tread water.

Main problems come from currents which drag you off and that can be easily avoided if you choose the right body of water. The lake at Shining cliff, for example, is very still and I don't think it is all that deep. Although it is equally not all that large

Meh.  I think if you haven't done it before you should make sure you aren't going to put your players at avoidable risk.  90% of drownings happen in fresh water.  I'm not saying don't do it, I'm saying be smart.  If you can't be smart then don't do it.

There is only overconfidence and terror.
