God in heaven! You know if people acted half decently here on rule 7 and didn't make cheap digs at new posters, there would be a whole lot more users of this site. Somebody moderate this rubbish please.

Scuse me guvnor, do you have a problem here?

I was ACTUALLY confused. I had the impression that the expedition was for charity. In which case a 17,500 fee for the organisers would have been outrageous for the amount actually raised. It isn't a charity race thus I was wrong.

Its a Holiday and adventure he's doing for himself and he's raising money on the side seperately to the event itself.

Which is great.

I was concerned due to the absolutely massive number of people who claim to do charity events which are actually things for themselves that they want other people to pay for with any excess going to charity.

Not the case here apparently.

Erf is not going on the Race 'for' the Charity. he is raising money simultaneously.... Which is good.

Hi Flannel,

Well I hope you're going to sponsor me after all this!

I do understand the confusion, but it isn't a "sponsor me and I get a free holiday" which seem very popular these days and to be honest have become the bane of our lives as we have to assure everybody that isn't what this is about it's a "I'm going regardless, so why not do something off the back of it".

I was concerned that unless I raised enough it would be easier to give the entrance fee to the charity and be done with it, but because the race will be on TV in the press etc. we've now managed to secure some corporate sponsorship towards our entrance fee, and that is money that was allocated by companies solely for marketing/advertising, so better go to us than an advertising firm!,  (thanks to Caine and Breitling  ).

So, now hopefully everybodys fears are placated, here we go.. (it's amazing how soon your pride diminishes when you start trying to raise money for charity)

****warning shameless begging follows****

I DO understand that LRP is not a rich mans hobby by any means, but even if you can just afford the price of one newspaper (or 2 if you read the Sun!), it really does all help, don't be put off by people having pledged £20+, it isn't the size of the donation, but the fact you are donating.

Yes, there are a zillion charities out there all vying for money and we all suffer from "charity fatigue" or whatever it's called.  So, apart from the fact that I'm a LRP'er, and even that counts for little as more people know my wife in LRP (Chow from Chows Emporium) than me, even though I've been ding it for 25 years (i'm not bitter!) why should you bother sponsoring me?

It's a cheap shot to say "sponsor me and it will stop children dying" I realise that now, because it won't (so apologies for earlier post), I could say "it will show the community how generous LRP'ers are", but it won't do that either, LRP won't gain out of it, but all it MAY do is give a few kids a chance to survive, and give those that do a little bit of hope for the future.

Thanks for your support,

Erf

" Due to emergency maintenance being undertaken by our credit card processor, Barclaycard Merchant Services, we are unable to process your donation at the moment.

We apologise for any inconvience caused and hope to have our payment facility restored as soon as possible.

Please try to make your donation again later.

Thank you for your understanding. "

Now I am sad.

There is only overconfidence and terror.
