It gets my thumbs up. Daniel Craig did a fabulous job, with a physicality I hadn't seen in Bond since Connery. It was well modernised, less bizzarre-gadget-heavy (don't talk to me about invisible cars), and more brutal in what I have heard coined as "the post-Bourne era".

Of course there were areas I was less impressed by. The song theme was solid rather than inspiring. A few of Ms lines didn't flow too well for me. There was a bit of a confused lull before the Venice scene which could have been tidier. But it's all nitpicking. The film was good.

Am deeply impressed they managed to put together an engaging Bond title sequence without resorting to the rather passe semi-nude female silhouettes.

Baccarat is in my opinion a rather dull game to watch, because there isn't as much skill as in Poker. I think they made a sensible choice, given that the game has to have a lot of screen time, to make it a more interesting game to watch, and also something more of the audience will understand.

Like all these things though, expectations have a big part. I went in with optimism but not expecting as good a film as I got. So let's hope that it's not just another Goldeneye, to be followed by three considerably more limp sequels.

The song I noticed was Chris Cornell, rather unexpected for a bond theme eh? As good as I think he is, it was a song that was easily forgettable.

I did love the intro credits though, very cool, a good way to start a bond film.

Loved the grittier Bond, the far from indestructable Bond (covered in bruises and cuts, tortured), the falible Bond, making mistakes. Certainly a lot less Carry On Bond than some of the past efforts.

I couldnt help but feel though that climbing a crane is the most ridiculous way to escape someone ever. I'd have just waited at the bottom.

As for the phones, well most phones now a days are smart phones, only as good as the software, if you can do it on a pc, why not on a phone? It didnt do anything miraculous that I remember, all pretty believable technology wise.

One thing that did become obvious was product placement. The Ford sponsorship especially, every single blooming car in the film was either a Ford, Jag, Range or Land Rover or finally an Aston Martin. They were everywhere and it was quite blatant in the end.

I walked out thinking he was a good bond, in an ok film, let down by below average dialogue and a big dead spot in the middle. I am looking forward to his next film though, should be good...well I hope. The best part of the film was the story of Bond, how he starts, and how he progresses, that was the triumph of the film for me.

I really enjoyed the title sequence -- very atmospheric, mixing a strong hint of 60s retro with the height of (1980s) technology, fractals.

I enjoyed the title scene too. some of the best fighting in the movie was in that.

I enjoyed it also.

It was nice to see him actually getting a bit roughed up and panting after running, while at the same time having the typical cheesy bond moments which I cant really describe without giving away elements of the film.

The product placement was shocking. The worst culprits were the drive in the Ford while starring at his Sony Ericsson and the banter scene on the train were they just happened to mention both Rolex and Omega watches by chance.

But then it is Bond and as such you want boom for your bucks and they dont come cheap unless they sell their souls to the god of all things marketing.
