So what did people think of Bond? Can we start doing massive spoliers here and discuss it?
I was greatly underwhelmed TBH after all the great reviews of it I read saying how Daniel Craig was the bestest Bond in the whole wide world, how dark it was, and so on and so forth.

Heretic. He's easily the best Bond since Connery (not that that's difficult), and possibly the best so far. I regard the movie as the best Bond film since _From Russia With Love_, and again, possibly the best ever... most of the rest haven't stood the test of time all that well, though.

So the obvious plot devices didn't annoy you?
The completely bizarre (and to my mind, utterly random) plot twists to drive the action?
The fact he is playing Texas Holdem poker (presumably now thanks to mass marketting of the TV poker, we are incapable of using any other game) instead of Baccarac?
To be honest, i thought there was a lot of good in the new Bond, but not nerely as much as was promised.

You are implying there is a bond film where there aren't blatant plot devices and silly set pieces? Surely it is part of the canon to have these things? Now, the last Brosnan film was over burdened with set pieces and plot devices - especially as they made a conscious effort to parody... sorry, tribute... all the most famous ones from previous films... Not seen this yet but do intend to at some point, maybe on DVD.

Exactly the opposite, which is kinda my point. We were promised "Bond v 2.0" but we got "Bond v 1.5" instead. Personally I'd of prefered it to be set in the 60's, and goen the whole hog.

| It was awesome. Great movie, great Bond. It exhibited the incredible stunts we want from Bond, along with class, charm, and some good old fashioned violence. Craig did a fantastic job at portraying the ultimate alpha male, in a way that demonstrated that such a creature is doomed to be perpetually unfulfilled. It was an excellent origin movie, and I think it was right to make this modern day in the same way all the Bond films ignore the fact that the actor and time period may drastically change. For this reason, the update to poker was a good and reasonable one. There was just enough classic Bond cheese, but injected a level of realism into the franchise that was needed after the 'invisi-car' we got last time. Depending on his performance in the next one Craig could shape up to be the best Bond we've had.

A lazy one in my opinion.

Realism? like the uber bond car of doom with all the gadgets to save his life - WITHOUT a roll cage?
and the mobile phone that did everything...
what about the huge plot jumps?

| I haven`t seen this one yet, but it may be the first Bond I`ll see in a long time. I saw Layer Cake and I think the actor has got what it takes, so I`ll chance it. So I really shouldn`t say anything about it yet. When it comes to card games, though, I believe baccarat - like vint-et-un - is played against the bank. How is Bond going to bankrupt Chiffre if he can`t play against him? It is also mostly a game of chance, while poker is much more about bluff and psychological insight; skill, if you will. Besides which, Casino Royale and Luxembourg`s entry for the Eurovision Song Festival somewhere in the eighties IIRC were the only two instances I ever heard of baccarat, and not having to explain the rules may have something to do with the decision of the makers.
