We junked all that from HT too. Keep the magic to mesmerism, demon-summoning, rituals, and alchemy, & you have a far better AND more believable game.

And also stuff like enhancements, 'command' type spells and other mind effecting things. Rather than fireball, how about a spell which makes your target feel immense pain or even causes wounds to appear as for the second episode of Robin of Sherwood?

You can also phys-rep some physical effects now I thik of it...

A couple of systems have a 'flash' spell... normally you pick someone to be blinded for ten seconds and shout at them, but these systems phys rep it by letting the player activate a camera flash or such like.... which does what it says on the tin and can blind several people for a bit (if its dark especially) or no one at all... no need for a call at at all, no specific targets, basically anyone looking at it can't see bugger all for a few seconds...

... mind effecting things. ... Robin of Sherwood?

What about about a spell that makes the victim think they're watching the new Robin Hood? That would be particularly cruel...

Thats too cruel!

Better to torture them with IC things anyway, and the new Robin Hood isnt even IC for itself.

One system I played in way back had a ruling that you had to burn the bodies or they'd reanimate as nasties. This meant players always had to go through the role play of collecting the dead and setting light to them etc. if this was not done in a certain time the monsters got up and attacked again. it added to the role play and panic if there was no fire mage around (and often more panic if there was)

another thing I have heard of it a medicing system that stated. A wound took the length of time to heal as it did to physrep it, which meant all the medics were also make up artists, with blood bangading and derma wax. and of course having plenty bandage and blood helps to give the idea. all wounds need to be bangdaged etc.

The downside is that you have to pretend there's a fire when there's not.

We have a similar mechanism where people who die in "tainted" lands arise as undead, but the way to stop it happening is to annoint them with blessed water. No need for pretending there's a fire, you just bless the water (which is a character ability) and then get some hapless player or crew member wet with it.
