| Not something I ever played, in fact I'm not sure it was ever released in the UK, but years ago I saw some screenies & a review of a Korean PC game called White Day- a 1st person survival horror affair set in a haunted high school, with you (the player)as a teenage girl, trapped in the building, with no weapons whatsoever. Apparently reduced the UK games hacks who tried it to gibbering heaps in places... sounded rather good, so I doubt it ever made it out of Korea. Sigh ... back to The Sims Shameless Cash-in XXIV.

DOOM 3- the part where your walking down a dank corridor with a full magazine, expecting the worst. An imp rips open the wall right next to u, you kill it almost instantly. then you hear some screaming in a ventilation shaft near the floor infront of u. you investigate and find a mutated zombie crawling towards you while screaming.
F.E.A.R- everything about this game is creepy, the dark rooms and corridors, the robots and the crazed man controlling them. but its the girl, Elma that scares me the most. you know shes really REALLY evil but when she skips past u down the hall way laughing merrily fear hits a whole new level. i couldnt play it further than that.
The night was cold and the boy new what would come now, more fantastic tales of giants who made chairs out of mountains, of maidens so beautiful you'd eat the sun for but a glance from them, of warriors who's icy eyes cut into lesser mens hearts like fire. But his grandfather started his age old tales differently tonight. " Gather round , ill tell you a tale now of a Prince , the last prince of a fabled land far off. His land had been surpressed under the rule of a tyrant from a neighboring country for many years. This prince fought , and outwitted this tyrant many times . you know shes really REALLY evil but when she skips past u down the hall way laughing merrily fear hits a whole new level. i couldnt play it further than that.The player is obviously meant to think that Alma is evil, but in the end I felt very sorry for her. When I found out who the real villain was, I felt quite queasy hearing what he'd been doing. Having said that, I couldn't play the game if I was the only one in the house! I'm such a pansy sometimes.

| I'll add a one in to this... not so much the spooky-scarey kind, but the jarring shock "oh-sh$t" moment kind. Portal. Fine, you knew the computer was nuts but upon completing the final test chamber your moving platform rounds the corner and you look dead on into the promised party with cake, not even an elevator out, but a rather crude incinerator. The entire end of the passageway is on fire, no surface in sight will accept the portal gun and GLADOS is merrily chatting in your ear about how useful your work has been. There was a definate element of panic in my response.

Elder Scrolls: Oblivion.
When you're in those old dark ruins just outside the Imperial City, fighting off the bandits... then you get to the bottom and one of them has already been killed, and you hear the shuffling of feet behind you and the zombie comes around the corner, followed by many more!
Later when you've got magic to pierce the darkness it's just not the same as it is in the beginning with just torchlight and shadows. That first time, I was on the edge of my seat!

| The F.E.A.R. demo. I remember playing it and being absolutely freaked, and unable to try again. It stopped me buying the game for over a year, and when I finally did get over being such a wuss I was really disappointed. Turned out that all the GOOD scary bits had been put together in the demo...
