title says it all really. i play a character which needs a lot of make up but its difficult to do it consistently so i was pondering wether it was worth getting a cheap airbrush kit

Ok, from mine & jeager's PoV...

We've found airbrush make-up to work very well, especially when we've played dark elves in other systems. It's also quicker in the morning for jeager's bits of black to cover up the bits under his mask...

I still use snazz as we only have black airbrush make-up!

Both are good, but the airbrush is quick for large areas (I only do my lower face and hands) and it seems to be appealing to guys who like to fiddle with 'toys'...

Yeah air brush the larger areas then work on everything which need more details with proper make up and paints.

I would add that air brushes do give a fantastic finish but they are unreliable. i know more than a few people with huge make up plans, get the brush out and it dies on them, so always have a back up.

I use Flair hairspray, it's safe (provided you don't spray it in your eyes) and washes off easliy.

Ok my experience of air brushes is limited to being sprayed with them but Id say this...

Makeup and Air brushes give very different finishes... Makeup is better for giving texture and stippling, air brushes are good for large areas and giving clean and blended colours... Im sure a makeup artist will be along to correct me soon

I do know that airbrushes need a lot of cleaning and care, so it may be quicker to put on the makeup but any time you save will be spent cleaning it...

My 2 penneth would be to always test this kind of stuff on an arm first, you dont want to spray hairspray all over your face only to find you have a bad reaction to it...

Ive used spray in my time, and found it ok... Get it in your eyes though and argh!!

Airbrushes can be quite reliable...

Of course you'll actually have to fork out for a decent one. Buy cheap cack and it will die on you. Plus youll need to keep it clean and possibly thin your paint dependent on what you're using. Oh and you'll need a reliable compressor.

You'll also need to get the hang of your airbrush... ive found different ones react in completely different ways.

However if you want a really nice finish (Think Chianna from Farscape) you'll find they give the quickest and best results...

I use solid make-up mainly for simplicity. Airbrushing does get better blurred edges etc but the additional kit required and the challenge of finding a power supply in the middle of a field has always put me off.
