Any ideas? Other than the easy "wear mittens or gloves"? I'm tempted to try modifying a pair of fingerless gloves, or just make some fingerless mittens.

| A pair of slightly larger than your hands latex gloves. Glue the fingers together with some really strong glue. Use latex to decorate (add scales etc) and paint. May work - it was one idea which inspired me when I used to work with latex gloves all the time but never tried it. You may need a very strong glue to make it work properly.

I haven't had much experience with latex prosthetics, but would one work here? I can see it causing problems for people with hairy fingers, mind.

My thought would be to use tight fitting latex gloves as a base then with latex build up the webs and exotic details that will be required for the costume. If you wished you could make the gloves fingerless (or at least open bellow the knuckle) to retain some digit dexterity.
I would be tempted to try two methods (on to the gloves):
*Use latex and cotton wool to build up the webs and detail, some very good results can be achieved this way but if the cotton wool fully soaks up the latex then they can be very stiff.
*Glue fine fabric between the fingers of the glove then paint over with latex for colouration - this method would produce less believable detail.
If I was doing this I would likely use a combination of the two above methods, fabric for the webs and cotton wool for detailing.
If one had the time and inclination the best results could be achieved by casting your hands and then moulding specific prosthetics (if casting hands, or similar, it is best to use alginate for the initial moulding so that you don't burn your fingers off).

nesciomancer (10/24/2006) I haven't had much experience with latex prosthetics, but would one work here? I can see it causing problems for people with hairy fingers, mind.Latex gloves are sticky if they are not properly talced or otherwise treated with things to make them non sticky. However, they are not a major problem even with hairy hands. The main problem is sweat as there is no where for it to go... this is why cutting the finger ends off is a good idea - allows some air circulation.

Could you take strips of latex and spirit gum them between you fingers? Or one longer strip and just stick to your hand running across the base of your fingers?

| You could Trez yes.... probably the simplest way in fact Youd want to keep the latex 'webs' powdered to prevent them sticking to themselves.... and possibly not use spirit gum if your going to the Tav and are likely to get beer on yer hands...

Might try the fingerless latex... I have concerns about its durability though. I think somewhere I have a pair of heavier-duty medical latex gloves that might do the trick -- the usual ones I have for evo-sticking etc. probably won't last a weekend event. Thanks for the ideas folks!
