| Asked around the office. The norms seemed to like it, most derogatory comment I had was "i am not sur about soem of the things they have been doing", which I never had quite explained, so god knows what that really meant. But yeah, it seems we may be in the ( correct ) minority, lets hope not though.................... R.

must have missed that bit when i went for a some, sorry but its failing to engage me this series, and after seeing the trailers for torchwood, I will be giving that a huge miss as it looks like it will be even worse that the most recent series of Dr Who (which was very bad)

If it wasn't the costuming that really bugged me it would be the ham acting. I've been to pantomime with more intense performances. I think I watched the second episode just to see if it could really be that bad again.
There's a real mix of comments on the BBC site for the series.

| Well after reading all of this I finally decided to test the waters myself and watch it couresty of NTL's 'On Demand' service. Now I can be entertained by some crap let me tell you... hell, I've sat through Steven Segal movies - in the cinema - but dear god I had to turn this steaming pile of doo doo of after 20 mins. I want a refund on my TV Licence for 20 minutes of my life that were robbed. I'm not funding this. It wasn't just the bad costume, or bad acting, or any one thing in particular. It just reeked of a second rate rip-off production that would either have gone 'Straight to DVD' (Bargin bin I might add) or something that some obscure digital/cable channel put in as a time filler. Not a prime time production of the BBC. To those that have already said that the ITV series is still ahead by far - I'm off to dig out my rather worn out videos of it... ... it may even be time to finally buy the DVD's! K.

| Finally Got to see the second episode. In the first one I noticed the cheese and the awful ccostumes (Not out of genre or innacurate. I couldn't give a crap if guy was wearing a leather trenchcoat. If it looks good it is good) on the soldiers. But managed to see past it to an entertaining take on an old old story. I wasn't blown away, I wasn't utterly dissapointed. Very much a good do better, and i'll watch episode 2 to see if they do. Well I did, and this time I barley noticed the ham or the soldiers crap costume. Instead i was drawn into the story and found the characyers begingin to sell themselves to me, so much so that when it ended I was genuinley dissapointed and now can't wait for episode 3. Sure it's cheesy and the soldiers costumes are inexcusable, but I find it fun! Roll on Saturday (or actually roll on thepiratebay.org as I am out saturday and my Sky+ is fucked!). Stu

Yeah, I think it is pretty good, though there are the occasional moments when I wince. Partly because Robin is played quite...social realist style, I suppose is the closest i can pin it down, whereas the Sheriff of Nottingham is overtly melodramatic. I think that the Sherrif is actually the better way to go - historical dramas, particularly mediaeval ones, usually need to be a bit over the top. However they're trying to talk about the modern need for individual defiance of the status quo/heroism, and so a straight talking Robin was probably quite intentional.
The only thing that is really awful is that some of the costumes are frankly horrifically ill-advised. On the other hand, many others are far better than that which you'd have seen on Xena or Hercules, which most LRPers are crazy for.
And as for someone whinging about Robin being politically correct - he's the original working class socialist hero for fucks sake!
