What is the deal with "his majesty"? is that just a glaring anachronism you are objecting to?
I found the whole thing fucking awful. I'm not sure what was worse, the acting, the script, the costume, the music video camera-work, or the fact that Marion looked like a man...

| I have to say I was not impressed. The worst was such flat characterisation, Robin was a bit wet really. Do you seriously believe this man could lead a band of outlaws successfully without getting stabbed at the first opportunity ? I will add that there is nothing wrong with knitted mail ( hey most of the Robin of sherwood henchmen wore it ) with the proviso of "when it is done well". This blatently wasn't. Roll on Dr. Who.

Tart (10/9/2006) What is the deal with "his majesty"? is that just a glaring anachronism you are objecting to?Basically yes. It purports to be set in 1192 (or similar, I cant remember which year arrow-ed on irritatingly). Henry 8th was the first monarch to be called Your Majesty - it was an ego thing. Richard Lionheart (as it was supposed to be), would be 'The King's Grace' or 'His Grace'. As someone else said, they go to a lot of effort for Sharpe, or Jane Eyre, or Middlemarch, or whatever, but Robin Hood gets cheap crap and no attention to detail. It might be fantasy, but they are claiming a year for it, so ought to make the effort to ge things right.

| I did find the big sprayed silver jumpers they were wearing... sorry mail, to be particularly hilarious. The very fact that they were wearing it all so prominently without even the good grace to cover them with tabards or something it wasn't as if they were going for accuracy or anything. Lack of money in a production doesn't necessarily mean that they can get away with sloppy costuming. Guy of Guisburne's duster coat was a case in point (I won't even go into the 'Blake's 7' looking monstrosity that he was wearing underneath). What the hell was the score with an obviously out of period long patterned leather jacket that looked like it came straight out of Camden High street? The keep guards wearing PVC patterned, what may have been interpreted as gambesons (though far too short). I don't think that I saw a single piece of costume in this production that anchored it to that specific period. Marian's court dress was quite nice, but there were far too many other problems. All that said however, I'm not surprised in the slightest that this has been shoved into this time slot. They are gauging the reaction of the British people before packaging it all up and selling it to American networks. Three quarters of an hour? Can we say, "made for commercial interruptions"? I think the Yanks will lap this sort of thing up wholesale. What the hell if it doesn't have any kind of historic basis in fact. It might sell a few more sheriff of Nottingham posable action figures and it kinda looks like merrye olde Englande. Mark S. The Shades leather

| I only saw the first ten minutes- but Much did appear to be wearing single leg hose, which are accurate for the period. Of course the rest of his kit looked shit, so it didn't stand out.

Shelford (10/6/2006) *Unlike Vinnie I think I will slate the programme before it is aired, then if it is good I can be pleasantly surprised, if it is not any good then I have the pleasure of shouting I told you so. Either way I win!I told you so! Jeez that was painful. It didn't pass the 3 year old test, my son didn't like it, so I can't even say it was made for kiddies. Where do I start? I will not bother going through the failures. The whole thing was a damn mess.

Just been reminded by the "ten foot pole" thread: Was it my imagination or were the guards wearing odd burkha style mail?
